Maybe some of it has to do

Maybe some of it has to do with size: those peacock feathers sure do shine when the bird is really big. I agree with what you said about Jason's mediocre performance, yet when I was watching them I was mainly struck by his beauty. The male professionals seem to be the ones who go through horrific facial gyrations. Ooooh, ahhh, roll the eyes...why do they do that? It must be a convention of ballroom dancing, but it LOOKS STUPID.

Agree about Mark

Yes, I totally agree that Mark was busy outshining Kristi...I seem to notice it more when the male pros do that, although it's also often true that the female pros dance CIRCLES around their male stars.

Do you think it's a chivalry thing...we want the men to match their women in style and skill, but we're OK if the women are more flashy and flamboyant than the guys?

I agree about Marisa/Tony.

I agree about Marisa/Tony. I'm ashamed to say that she reminds me of somebody's Aunt Pearl dancing at the bar mitzvah--but she does, and that definitely detracts when I watch them. I also agree about Kristi and Mark, except: they didn't seem like they were dancing together as a couple. He's off dancing by himself it seems to be.

I have a feeling Marlee will bounce back next week stronger than ever--she doesn't let a little setback stand in her way. :)

Marissa Needs Some Improvement

I agree with you that last week Marissa's jive could have been more intricate, but I also think the judges were somewhat harsh.

This week I actually thought the choreography was pretty good and she executed it well.

And yeah, she, Kristi and Mario are this season's ringers, but I also think ballroom dancing is a whole other animal, so it does take some doing to translate it.

Can't wait to see who goes home tonight though. Hopefully Adam. Blech!

Well, yes, she's a ringer like Kristi

The truth is that my expectations for Melissa might be high because she's the most ringer of them all. Her Tony win was for a role that was just as heavily focused on dancing as singing, despite what Tony said last week. Sure, it wasn't ballroom dancing, but she has a huge advantage in being able to learn choreography, musicality and grace, just like Kristi.

So, from my perspective, I'm surprised she hasn't wowed me more...and the more I think about it, the more I blame choreography that's too repetitive and not challenging enough for her skills.

I don't dislike her, I just want more :)

I Love Marissa

Hi Elisa,

Though I agree with you about her outfits---they haven't been the most flattering---I think she did very well last night.

I think she's a good dancer and I love seeing a woman who's plus sized up there strutting her stuff.

In fact I have a post coming up tomorrow on Video Runway about why I'd love to see her win.

No I didn't hear that. And please forgive me for doubting your understanding of DWTS methodology.

I fear that then indeed means another, um, interesting dance from Marie.

Judges' choice: Mel Viewers choice: Toss a coin

Marie's freestyle was a train wreck on a fast track to falling over a cliff. But she wasn't playing to me, she was playing to all those doll collectors out there who are her biggest fans. Don't count her fan base out.

Mel B has never been my first choice, but she was certainly the judges', and they signalled that in a big way. However, my personal favorite has been Helio. He may not be technically perfect, but he really does get the idea of entertaining. I like him in a race car and I like him on the dance floor. My money is on Helio with a hedge bet on Marie.

Last night Tom tried to explain that they will eliminate the third place couple right away, and then the top two will dance one more time. The judges will score one more time, but they will carry over the audience vote from last night, give it 50% weight and then determine the winner.

It was quite convoluted.

The S.O. insists that that means the judges can pick the winner, but unless they tell the judges exactly how the audience vote broke out, I don't think that's possible.

There will be no more lackluster dancing from Marie - I think they did a top two only the first season. That was it last night. Winner will hoist the mirror ball tonight.

And feel free to let it stand - anyone every criticizes my dancing in the future I'll just claim I'm channeling a reality show.

I wanted to like her, I really did. I tried really hard to like her. But her incessant whining and insistence on being needy week after week after week...(can I do it, oh, pleasepleaseplease tell me I can do it because I can't possibly believe it without you telling me) made me want to SCREAM. She could've danced two perfect rounds and I wouldn't have voted for her. Her cha-cha was nice, but that costume was horribly unflattering.

Bottom line: I was glad to see her go.
