Incredible coverage

OK - finally caught up on your coverage of BWB, Megan! While I am totally jealous that you got to cover this conference, I deeply appreciate the fabulous work you've done to help us all experience the event vicariously.

Gina and her work are impressive. I love how it sounds like she's created a space for learning, community, friendship and respect to all come together. It makes perfect sense that BlogHer would support such an event.

I really hope to be there next year. Third year, three's a charm... right?

Sounds Like You've Got Some Decisions To Make

I understand the feeling of being at a crossroads. I always told myself when my blogging felt like work, I would have to make adjustments. That's one reason I only post on my personal blog 3-5 times a week, and it's also the reason I gave up another paying gig because the pay was too little as was the emotional return on the creative investment.

But as soon as you finish that book, I'll be ready to pick up a copy!

Megan
BlogHer Contributing Editor, TV/Online Video

I Loved Your Post!

Hi Candelaria,

I loved your post, "You Can't Take Black Away From Me." The sentiments you express in your lyrics are exactly right. No one else gets to decide how supposedly black I am.

I define myself as a human being of many talents, passions, likes and dislikes.

Of course I'm black. I see that fact in the mirror everyday, but I decide for myself what that means.

Anyone who dares to say to me I'm not "black enough," or "whatever enough" is insulting me. And I don't tolerate insults from anyone.

Megan
BlogHer Contributing Editor, TV/Online Video

I wish I could have gone

She has a cool and inspiring story. I had started to do a decent job of branding myself as Jersey Goddess, a persona of sorts, but dropped it all when I needed to go home to NOLA. For a time I dropped blogging completely. Can't seem to get any kind of momentum going now, and I think it's b/c I'm losing the drive to talk about myself or at least feeling pressure from external sources not to talk about myself, if that makes any sense. Plus, I'm feeling bad about not finishing a book during a time when people are screaming the book is dead.

She said she used it as an outlet, and that's what I was doing in the beginning, but lately it's felt like a job. What she said about people expecting more resonates. You have to ask yourself, "What if this thing really takes off, do I want the expectations that go with that?"

Be true to yourself and be consistent! Yes. And this is can be hard if you were trained to write objectively and remove the self. Hmm, I feel a blog post coming on. I'd better stop. LOL.

Thank you for bringing Blogging While Brown to those of us who could not go or did not know about it.

Yep, A Majority Were Women

Hi Virginia,

You're right, a majority of the BWB attendees were women. I'd say 70%. I don't have the exact numbers.

And just like at BlogHer, everyone was brainstorming about all the new ways to communicate via blogging and the internet.

Megan
BlogHer Contributing Editor, TV/Online Video
