Collecting Cookbooks

Hi Denise,

This really isn't a cookbook in the true sense of the word. Although it has recipes, what Mrs. Aresty offers is a re-creation of recipes from the past which can be enjoyed today. I find it fascinating:)

Thanks so much for visiting.

Louise

Thanks for this post.

As a Jew, the story of the Passover seder is the Exodus from Egypt. But I appreciate that it holds a different place in other religious traditions.

You might find these posts about Passover that I've written over the years in a series I try to keep up with called What Do Jews Do:

What do Jews Do: Passover 2007 (includes links to What Do Jews Do Passover 2006 where there are pictures and I think a great kosher le pesach brownie recipe too)

Passover: Party or Plague?

The Jewishness of Easter

There are more but I didn't want to overwhelm! If you search on "passover" you'll find more at my blog.

Of course right now? We are consumed with Purim!

Passover Seder + Easter

I'm really intrigued by how you combine the two. So do you celebrate this feast on Friday evening when Passover starts? Do you also do the Passover Havdalah?

I have a Cuisinart Grind and Brew and good coffee beans is one thing I splurge on all the time. I just have to have good coffee to start the morning.

Really enjoyed this. We broke with tradition this year by visitng India and leaving behind all the consumerist paraphernalia of Christmas. In doing so we became steeped in a country and culture with its own deeply rooted traditions and somewhere along the way I'm still trying to get it all sorted in my mind. For the time being I've contented myself with blogging about my travels albeit themed to coincide with my divorce blog.

she is wonderful, thanks. she came out that way. my husband and i joke that all we really have to do is NOT mess her up.

but i also believe that we are profoundly shaped by the energy of those in our lives. I started choosing the people in my life more carefully once i had a daughter, because i didn't want negative influences in her life. But i can't help but wonder why i didn't do it sooner, just for me.

now i do. i realize that the energy of people in my life informs my world, we all become like our environment, and are therefor responsible for creating the kind of environment we actually want to be in, be like. it's not always easy, i know that. but i want to be like my daughter, so i spend time with her..... i don't want to be negative and crabby and manipulative and materialistic, so i don't spend time with people who are like that....

man, being a mother has taught me so much. (i hope i'm doing as much for her!)

glad you like TinkerTank. We love it..... now what do with it next!

Happy New Year!
When I was a child...

I was really disappointed to learn that you couldn't scrape leftover liver and onions into a cardboard box, wrap it up in brown paper, and send it to C.A.R.E. or UNICEF. I really wanted to help those starving children overseas; I was so sure I'd hit on a win-win solution.

Okay, flash forward...I'm not doing much. I could do more. And this year, one of my resolutions involves becoming a better informed, more active member of the community.

1) Volunteer. Beginning in January, I'm taking CERT training. My daughter and I volunteered at the Astrodome following Hurricane Katrina, and I resolved then and there to be better prepared so I'd never again feel so helpless and useless in a disaster.

2) Reduce, reuse, recycle. In 2007, I eliminated my use of styrofoam cups. Doesn't sound like much, until you consider that I drink coffee or tea all day long at the office, and was grabbing a new cup each time. This year, I'm going to try to waste less and recycle more.

3) Write to our elected officials monthly regarding issues that matter to me. Vote for the ones who make a positve difference.
