Stereotyping technology users

I have two stories for you. 1) A friend was working on an ecommerce website for an international retailer and their store manager overseas (a very nice guy who meant well) was trying to explain in a phone conversation the need to dumb down the interface for their 40+ female buyers. My friend said "Khem! That would be me." The guy was embarrassed out of his wits. 2) I overheard a conversation of two female "senior citizens". I would say they were around 70. They were wondering if the actor that they saw in a movie appeared in other films. Finally, they agreed they needed to Google his name.
