Job Security... Definitely a Myth

Yeah I don't think job security exists. It is (and may always have been) some degree of a myth. Employees are much like free contractors now - work for a time here, then something new. Even more reason to keep that freelance mindset hat on!

I'm glad I've now heard of "My So-Called Freelance Life." Not only does it remind me of the good-old days watching Claire Daines on TV with my sister, but I found the excerpts you included to be helpful. Also, thanks for the good links!

Thanks so much for this post, Paula. I will get this book. I will pass your post on to some other people I feel could use your words of wisdom. I had lunch with a young woman today and said to her that there is no such thing as job security any more. I think we all need to have side gigs (if we have a regular, steady job) and to have our plan B, C, D and so on ready in this climate.

I'm actually excited you're doing this, because I want to build my own blogroll, too, but it's hard for me as a busy mom to find the time sift through the blogosphere. So yeah! Write it up, baby, and hopefully I'll find some other bloggers to connect with from your write-ups.

Anyway, you'll read in my about section that I'm a sarcastic mom learning how to be grateful. I try to think of something everyday that I'm grateful for and blog about it. It's hard, really hard. And it's not syrupy sweet, either. I include the crap, but try to find the silver lining in there somewhere.

I thought I was starting a blog Iabout me, my daughter, my life, my work, and my "issues" - pregnancy loss and infertility. It's about all those things, but mostly about my marriage imploding, and maybe, maybe, about how you put a marriage back together. Or not. It might possibly be about how you get a divorce after trying to put a marriage back together.
