Seems like the only way to get rich quick is to concoct a get rich quick scheme. Even then it's unlikely.

I agree that old-fashioned work is the best way.

good points Mama Hope

Both your examples of affiliate links and disclosure policies raise great points.

I think it would be hard to argue deferred/affiliate compensation models do not hold the same potential conflicts as direct sponsorship. In fact, one could argue affiliate relationships carry more authenticity risk than straight gifts/cash because the blogger must succeed at converting a reader if they hope to be compensated for their time/effort.

As for disclosure policies, the one you linked was a great example. I think Rita's wish for a framework like Privacy Policies already exists and it's called Disclosure Policies (modeled after Privacy Policy framework). It's something I've blogged about for awhile over at disclosurepolicy.org. Given the diversity of blogs and bloggers in the world, a framework like Disclosure Policies provides readers a standard phrase to search for ("Disclosure Policy") to understand the policies and conflicts of the blog they are reading. This post and comment stream alone declares multiple disclosure policies people use, but having a "policy" is of little use if it's not documented in a standard place (your blog) linked by a standard phrase readers can find ("Disclosure Policy"). The key is matching author and reader expectations, and DPs make that possible.

Great post Rita and insightful comment Mama Hope...

Website to buy REAL gently used Coach bags

There is a great website called Shetrades.com that has gently used Coach handbags. If you love the bags but do not want to spend the money this is a great place to pick one up. Be sure to ask the seller for the serial number before you purchase. You always want to be sure that they are authentic! Happy shopping!

One of the 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling

Yes I believe she is going to run again. That is the reason she took SOS because she needs more forgien policy experience. She is going to run again. She will not take on Obama because that is to risky politically but she will run again in 2016 unless Obama decides not to run in 2012.

Do you think she really will run for President again? Would she dare take on Obama in 2012? Wait until 2016 when she's in her late 60s? PunditMom aka Joanne Bamberger BlogHer Contributing Editor, News & Politics

Could be...

I tried out JBJ for the first time last week and it did indeed drive new traffic to my blog. The video player also gave me an opportunity to use my Amazon affiliate code -- something I've had for a while but haven't really figured out a relevant way to incorporate in my blog. Now whether anyone will actually click and BUY anything and thus turn that into any dollars (or cents) for my site, I don't know, but at least it gave me a handy way to try it out.

I think the JBJ videos are well done, come from a very balanced, not-too-preachy perspective, and are easy to embed. The model of allowing bloggers to bring the content to our sites, but also to have the posts show up instantly on JBJ is great. And overall I think it is a terrific way to provide conversation starters for blogs. This is not much different from the model of drop-in articles for newsletters, except that it is much, much more interactive and of course there is a two-way opportunity for revenue (more traffic to JBJ's site, more traffic to the JBJ site). My blog is not yet monetized, but I am hoping this will eventually help me get there.

I use all three technologies (FB, Twitter, JBJ), but in different ways, and I use Twitter the least at the moment. I use Facebook heavily and actually learned of JBJ through Facebook. I am not sure one replaces the other, so much as all are tools in my blogger's Swiss Army knife (as is BlogHer!)

I Understand Why That Would Be An Issue

It never occurred to me because I don't have any hearing issues, but you're right, Hulu should make an effort to provide captioning.

Maybe you should shoot them an email and see how they respond.

I've Hulu-ed but have one issue

I've gone to Hulu to catch up on several shows. I think it's great and it lets you embed episodes sometimes, which I think is a cool idea for shows trying to build an audience.

However, due to a problem with our cable company having to change out the DVR box, my daughter lost the final episode of Battlestar Galactica and never got to see it. I've been checking around online and can't find a captioned version (she's hard of hearing). The SciFi (SyFy) Channel doesn't even provide captioning online as other networks have started doing for its online shows.

I told her I plan to buy the final season, but she said, "Everybody else got to see and knows what happened. I want to know now like everybody else!" O.K., I get her point.

It's true that YouTube rarely has captioning on anything, but since Hulu's making an name for itself by providing full episode video of network television shows, I think it needs to check into captioning quickly.

Size Doesn't Matter

GM is huge but it is failing - in business it's about the bottom line. Having a million cusotmers and losing money is not as attractive as a niche audience that is profitable.

If Juicebox Jungle can come up with a businesss model that works online then they will achieve what Facebook and Twitter as of yet have not. Is that putting the hot dog cart before Le Cirque? Perhaps because Juicebox Jungle's buisness model isn't proven. That was the point of hte post...a company that is introduxing a new way to make money online. We'll have to wait and see if they succeed where others have not or if they have the same financial issues as the others.
