or do they mean something different by "nformation"

very interesting results.

I hear what the first two posters are asking. I guess I just wonder if part of women's contribution to the internet/blogosphere is changing some of the definitions.

I for one can find a post informative, reliable even, certainly helpful, without expecting or assuming it's authoritative or declarative.

Also some types of information don't require as high a bar to be authorititative or at least do no harm if they are taken to be more "expert" than they are. A blog about the best places for sushi in New York City is a lot different than one about how "how to conduct surgery at home: a beginner's guide for teens!" :) exaggeration but you get the idea...

really interesting survey and discussion. I'd ask (next year?) what social media tools folks are using and HOW we're reading all these things/processing all this information. I for one am loving it, but know I'm just scratching the surface and want to know more without going bonkers.

-washy (would give up just about ANYTHING to blog)

The survey makes me sad

80% Wouldn't give up chocolate to blog? Am I in the right place?

Having a voice and being able to express that voice...that whole freedom of speech thing...matters more to me than chocolate, alcohol...really more than most anything else.

Even just having a blog and knowing when you're old and forgetful you can go back and read about your life. Remember things you never would otherwise.

Would you burn your personal journals for chocolate too? What about scrapbooks? Are journals and scrapbooks so very different from a blog?

I really REALLY don't mean to sound antagonistic, I'm just coming from a place of total and complete shock.

and nobody can read your tone. often in forums, something can be taken completely differently from your intent. so try to re-read everything before you post.

People Have Feelings

Toby Bloomberg, Diva Marketing

Vered - It's as easy to annoy peeps online as it is offline. However, in the digital world it is sometimes easy to forget that there is a person behind the post with feelings. Your advice is well taken.

If you wouldn't say it to someone in person, don't say it online

I think that pretty much captures it. And it's true for email communication as well.

Even with this rule, chances are you will annoy people once in a while, just like you would (OK, I would) in real life. But it's a good way to make sure you can always stand behind what you said.

Wow, some people really are addicted to blogging or perhaps I just like drinking more than most. I might consider cutting back!

I agree it was surprising

When Jory asked that question (Who here is in PR/Communications vs. who here is a blogger?) I was really surprised that more bloggers had chosen this session (one of two going on at the time) vs. the other, and that fewer PR folks had. The target audience was much more the latter than the former. Another symptom I suppose.

I remember teaching my clients that they needed to be able to answer the "what do you do?" question in 30 seconds or less.

I'm sure it's weird that this was one of the things that impressed me the most about this video. :-)

Confusion with who's who in GM segement

First thanks to Rita and all the other live bloggers for keeping those of us who could not make it to New York in the loop!

When reading the GM segment of this post, I think there was some confusion between Jill Whalen (the interview) and Natalie from GM. Several comments above are attributed to Jill, but I actually think they were Natalie speaking.

Just hoping to clarify.

Thx

Where Were the Marketers/PR people?

It was great to speak on the panel and to hear the different perspectives. It was a little disheartening to see how few marketers/pr people were in the audience though. (Perhaps that's why "they don't know what to do with us".) It was great to interact with the other bloggers though.

I've Been Thinking About This Interview with Terri

I just listened to the interview and she doesn't sound all that old to me. Me thinks she is one of those "young in spirit" kinda gals.

I'm glad she came to the conference. I don't agree with everything she said about not knowning everything about starting a business, I think you should have a good idea of what you are getting into but that is why she was at Biz Blogher.

I am keeping in mind that she has had considerable experience starting businesses. I do understand her meaning i.e. don't wait for perfection or total mastery.

Don't let fear be a reason for not starting a business. I agree with that fully.

I feel you should know something more than just your desire to jump in an build a business. Just my 2 cents on that part of the interview but otherwise it was inspirational.

Thanks.
