Fall is also my favorite time of year. I just love the colors they smells and all the time we spend on great cooking for comfort etc.

Choose Your Pleasures

For two weeks I have lived without pasta, rice and potatoes. But that sugary stuff, I need my occasional indulgence, otherwise, I won't withstand the temptation of a continuous bowl of pasta.

Choose your enemies and your friends. Choose what you can say no to, and stick to it, and choose your indulgencies, too.

Thanks for this very thoughtful comment and perspective. I've appreciated very much the things I've read from A Course in Miracles and would love to delve deeper. Your comment reminds and encourages me.

Funny how these old posts pop up again...

My spiritual path (A Course in Miracles) says it very clearly "Happiness is a decision I must make." There will always be things to be happy or unhappy about. There is certainly enough misery and sadness in the world to occupy my mind every waking moment, should I choose to go down that route.

I believe happiness is serious business. To choose to be an agent of happiness, to try and spread positivity and hope and creativity and fun, is to go against what most of the world teaches - measuring our worth by how much we have and how we look and which says we must ever be in the miserable race for more, more, more, until we somehow "win" by dying with the most toys.

Part of being happy is knowing myself and being true to myself. I am always amused when other people assume what will make ME happy. For instance, I have had people assume I am unhappy because I am not in a relationship. I have found that the past 2 1/2 years living by myself for the first time in my life have been the most pleasant I have ever had. I feel in control of who I see and when I see them, and for me that brings a great deal of peace and stress-free happiness.

I love your post

Hi Maria

I know this post is 6 months old, but I am new to blogher and am all about choosing my own happiness and fully taking control of my life. I love what you wrote and the fact that you reference others who have the same perspective.

I recently wrote a post about making the choice to be happy and being in control of our lives instead of playing the victim.

I find that I cannot read enough from likeminded people and on my difficult days there is alway a book, podcast or blog that I can read or listen to to shift me into a better place. "What we appreciate, appreciates", so we might as well focus on the positive and create it in our lives.

Best,

Karen

Localvore Challenges

After reading Barbara Kingsolver's, "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle", I decided to start a Localvores of Colorado Yahoo!Group and was interviewed about it at the Red, White & Grew website:

http://www.tinyurl.com/5r5nsq

This is such an important issue, and I hope many more people are inspired by your challenge!

Olive was very impressive. I was watching some of her videos this morning. How amazing that she had such vivid recall on events that occurred over 100 years ago.

Seriously, I can't remember what I did last week.

I've spent a lot of time reading about Olive, watching videos of her and reading her blog. Love her. I'm sorry to hear she's gone.

Oooh, I like that.

As much as I love my 5-point checklist in the morning (I'm a listmaker, if you couldn't tell), having a few minutes to do nothing in the morning does sound appealing.

I've never thought of making my own workout tape. I do have a MacBook with Garage Band, so that's something to consider. Hmm...

Garage Band Makes Good Yoga Tapes

It was a matter of survival, really, and the best thing I did when my baby was still young. I needed 15 minutes to myself in the morning. All for me. No lists. No chores. No baby, even. I started waking up at 5:00, a time when my baby wasn't awake yet, for yoga and meditation.

I had used Garage Band on the Mac to create my own yoga tape with cues for my favorite streches and sun salutations. I added a track with prayers, reminding me of the kind of day I wanted to create.

I don't know if this is what Apple was thinking and I won't take it commercial any time soon, but the tape and my time in the morning has been so valuable to me. I couldn't imagine my day without it.
