shoe purchases online

hey there,

i'm also on the same page. you need solid, dependable (and COMFORTABLE) running shoes. otherwise, you're sacrificing so many things -- and it also impeded upon the impact of your work-out. i actually really like a lot of the online stores for walking/running shoes.

here is a review of the walking company, which i actually really recommend:

http://factoidz.com/the-walking-company-online-shoe-shopping-review-experience

Decluttering

ShalilahI'd like to share something. I'm always organizing. However when my daughter was a little girl, I'd often put everything away neatly.

However I had a bad habit of not remembering where I put something. My daughter used to say "Mom you hide things from yourself" I laugh when I think about that now.

alternatives to resolutions

I also don't make resolutions, but this year when I wrote my list of Top 3 Needs I realized that they were a great alternative to making "resolutions."

I agree that it's the "shoulds," the inflexibility and the guilt that has always made resolutions seem like the wrong path for me. But I do think that the passing of cycles makes such a great opportunity to re-evaluate and bring meaning.

So after reading various blogs and posts about resolutions this year I decided to write out some ideas for alternatives to resolutions. For 2009, my biggest goal is to make sure I keep my Top 3 Needs present in my life, the three things I need to keep my fuel tank filled to matter how busy I am, despite my highs and lows. So I guess that's my version of a resolution. Here are a few others:

Five Alternatives to New Year's Resolutions

Best to all in 2009!

Excerpt from The One Heart Series by Patricia E. Adams

Foundation Scripture:

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”

(I Thessalonians 5:23)

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy. To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

“What is man that though art mindful of him; the Bible records. Man is a tripartite being created in the image of God as an expression of God. The divine plan of God for his created man was that he would love Him with all of himself. This created being would have an absolute desire to fellowship with his creator; from an undivided heart.

Man was created to fulfill the purpose of God in the earth; that is to commune and glory in the benefits of God. The Word of God was the creative force that formed the heavens and the earth, and he alone holds the patent on his creation and the keys to the kingdom.

Hi Mary,

Thank you for the link. Taking charge of your life is huge---remember that there is no such thing as a perfect anything. There are no perfect houses, perfect families, perfect moms, perfect jobs, or perfect marriages. That's what's fun about being a human! We are in control: we decide what needs to be tweaked this way or the other, and we can decide what works/doesn't work in our own particular life.

I'm proud of you. Feel free to email me at anytime, and I'll try my hardest to make up some sort of inspirational mumbo-jumbo to keep you motivated. :-) Life is a process and a journey; there is no destination.

Congratulations on the weight loss!

xoxo

steph

Dieting Time

I, too, had kids and a divorce and the only comfort I found was in food. A few weeks ago I had an epiphany: the potato chips no longer tasted good and I didn't even pay attention to my eating them. That was what made me really start to change my habits--it was no longer giving me the comfort I needed. Oh, and my french fry loving friend moved across the country, that helped too.

Sigh heard 'round the world

I was dreading returning from vacation this week and having to admit failing at some of my goals. We spent the last week in New Zealand which is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. The contrast between daily life here in Shanghai and there could not be more extreme. While IT was a perfect vacation, I was not so perfect on vacation. The Sauvignon Blanc would not leave me alone and on our three day sailing trip (www.ecocruz.co.nz) they fed us the most delicious meals that absolutely required second helpings, not to mention the fact that I caught the tuna that the sushi was made from so I should eat LOTS of it!So thanks for not asking for more promises this week. I am going to reward myself by not counting the last week and move on as if I haven't missed a single workout session or consumed an extra calorie.

Running Shoes

I completely agree - I started running about two years ago and that is one area where I feel comfortable spending a little extra and buying shoes before I absolutely NEED them. Ask my wife - I do not do this with ANY other article of clothing but my feet are the most essential part to running, not to mention wanting them to feel good the rest of the day.

75 lbs is amazing. Seriously. And I love that you had 10 lb. increments, too. I often fall victim of putting the carrot SO far out there that it seems like I'll never get it...and then give up.

What was the tattoo? :)

I love when I do something like that (like finally change a lightbulb); it makes me feel like I've really accomplished something. And that doesn't even involve anyone else -- so yours is especially notable. Well done. :)

I already posted my update on my progress on my SMART resolutions here: http://notjustaboutcancer.blogspot.com/2008/02/resolutions-2008-month-in...

I hadn't thought about rewarding myself though (although i have done so in other contexts, for sure). Hmm. Something to think about, for sure.

Thanks for another great post, Kristy. Once again, you made me guffaw out loud. Growing "mostly horizontally." Indeed.

but when I reached my weight loss goal last year - 75 pounds - I got a tattoo.

I rewarded myself each 10 pound level of weight loss with new clothes, a pedicure, a haircut or new color, a book that I was extra interested in reading. I also gave myself permission to buy new songs on iTunes every Friday that I worked out for an entire week.

I'm really enjoying this series!
