Sigh heard 'round the world

I was dreading returning from vacation this week and having to admit failing at some of my goals. We spent the last week in New Zealand which is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. The contrast between daily life here in Shanghai and there could not be more extreme. While IT was a perfect vacation, I was not so perfect on vacation. The Sauvignon Blanc would not leave me alone and on our three day sailing trip (www.ecocruz.co.nz) they fed us the most delicious meals that absolutely required second helpings, not to mention the fact that I caught the tuna that the sushi was made from so I should eat LOTS of it!So thanks for not asking for more promises this week. I am going to reward myself by not counting the last week and move on as if I haven't missed a single workout session or consumed an extra calorie.

Running Shoes

I completely agree - I started running about two years ago and that is one area where I feel comfortable spending a little extra and buying shoes before I absolutely NEED them. Ask my wife - I do not do this with ANY other article of clothing but my feet are the most essential part to running, not to mention wanting them to feel good the rest of the day.

75 lbs is amazing. Seriously. And I love that you had 10 lb. increments, too. I often fall victim of putting the carrot SO far out there that it seems like I'll never get it...and then give up.

What was the tattoo? :)

I love when I do something like that (like finally change a lightbulb); it makes me feel like I've really accomplished something. And that doesn't even involve anyone else -- so yours is especially notable. Well done. :)

I already posted my update on my progress on my SMART resolutions here: http://notjustaboutcancer.blogspot.com/2008/02/resolutions-2008-month-in...

I hadn't thought about rewarding myself though (although i have done so in other contexts, for sure). Hmm. Something to think about, for sure.

Thanks for another great post, Kristy. Once again, you made me guffaw out loud. Growing "mostly horizontally." Indeed.

but when I reached my weight loss goal last year - 75 pounds - I got a tattoo.

I rewarded myself each 10 pound level of weight loss with new clothes, a pedicure, a haircut or new color, a book that I was extra interested in reading. I also gave myself permission to buy new songs on iTunes every Friday that I worked out for an entire week.

I'm really enjoying this series!

I'm so glad you pointed out the wide umbrella that health is situated underneath. Whew. Today, my healthiness included eating breakfast (my least favorite meal ever) as well as taking some time out for myself to hula hoop...well, at least before it started storming outside ;]

My healthy thing today

Many months ago, hell, maybe a year ago, the S.O. broke something in our house. Ever since then it has been, of course, his job to get it fixed, and he hasn't. Moreover he has ignored my suggestion that he call my stepdad, Mr. Fixit, and have him help.

And this has been driving me silently crazy for all this time. I encounter and have to work around this broken thing at least once per day, and I have given up nagging about it and just been fuming about it.

So unproductive, no?

So this week while the S.O. has been away on business I called Mr. Fixit, and he came over today while I was working from home and started the fixit process.

I know I feel much more mentally healthy already.

(And I'm hoping the S.O. will be secretly relieved I went ahead and took care of it. What do you think?)

Does that count?

I admire your efforts to be

I admire your efforts to be more environmentally conscious! I'm always curious when I see those 'natural' tampons that they sell in Whole Foods but have been afraid to try them...Oddly enough its because I'm afraid of what is in them--which doesn't make much sense when you consider that chemicals are what make up the other!!

Good Luck!

I Joined

I kept putting off joining the local YMCA. A year after debating many of the above points, I decided that I had to give it a try. Thankfully, the Y offers fantastic classes, childcare and equipment on an income base scale. It's affordable and the sanity I gained by a couple of hours of focused workouts was unbelievable!

Great Idea Lunging Lisa

Spread them out throughout the day... great idea. Makes it seem much less daunting!
I will consider this for week 10 or so... at this point I think if I took my body from lounging to lunging it might rebel. I'll work up to it.
Good luck!

My Tight Ass Goals

I have pledged to do 70 lunges and squats each day for the next two months. I will wake up, stretch, and throughout the day, do a few lunges and squats. I figure if I do 5 lunges and 5 squats 7 times a day, I've made my goal, just in time for the summer...................:)

My ass will be sore, but it'll look good..................LOl

Ok.... I have posted my new goal for week 4. We are heading to New Zealand at the end of the week, so hopefully vacation won't mean the death of my resolutions!

New goal posted:
