Mixing Dressing

If I'm understanding your question, you'd like a way to mix the dressing with the other ingredients. The best way I've found to do this to put the salad ingredients in a container with the dressing. Make sure the container has a lid so you can close it and shake up the ingredients.

From what I've found, by using this method, I'm able to use less dressing.

One other idea that might work is to put the dressing on the side. When you want to eat your salad, dip your fork into the dressing first, then add the salad stuff to it. This usually gives you just enough dressing and you can really taste the other ingredients...................:)

Dressings...

When I go out to good restaurants, one of the things I've noticed is that they really integrate the salad dressing iwith the ingredients. I've been trying to figure out how to get better at this. Any ideas?

I really want to stop

I really want to stop drinking the soda, but haven't seriously tried that hard. I have, however, stopped drinking soda with aspartame in it. I discovered it was giving me massive, nightly headaches. When I cut out the aspartame, the headaches stopped. Try it!

A co-worker recently told me that she drinks sparkling water (perrier) instead of pop. It's carbonated water. So you think you are drinking a pop, but it has 0 calories. If you want or need flavor, spritz a slice of lime in it.

I'm going to try it!

a plethora of soup recipes

A bunch of friends sent me some great soup recipes (vegetarian and low-fat) for when I was recovering from jaw surgery. My favourite is the butternut squash soup (don't be thrown off by the peanut butter in it - it actually makes the soup sing). You can find them here: http://www.smilingbella.com/2008/02/recipe-mania.html

Another friend sent me a recipe for "cream" soup that's low fat and versatile - you're only limited by your imagination: http://www.smilingbella.com/2008/07/soup-recipe-to-end-all-soup-recipes....

Enjoy!

soda is poison, people!

Great post! One of the hardest challeneges I have as a personal trainer is weaning people off diet soda. One client of mine lost 5 inches off her waist in 30 days, simply by stopping the soda.

And no I'm not kidding, it's true. Dr. Oz's book does a great explanation of how soda affects the bodys metabolisim.

I beg anyone who is trying to lose weight to get off ALL soda!

Keep it Movin!

Dissolves Battery Acid

I gave up soda and the pounds came off fast. The clincher for me was when I poured some Coke on a battery and watched it dissolve the acid. I figured that I shouldn't drink a beverage that dissolves battery acid.

Can't believe how easy soup is to make

I was afraid of it for many years, and now I can't believe how easy it is to make something amazing. That's an interesting idea to eat before a meal to help lose weight, makes sense!
Anything carbonated

is supposed to demineralize your bones and increase your risk of osteoporosis, according to something I read. That's why I stopped drinking soda. Do you know if that is accurate information, Catherine?

As a diabetic, I'm always

As a diabetic, I'm always looking for ways to make dishes healthier. I like replacing mashed potatoes with a white bean puree, but when that just won't do, I mix white beans into the mashed potatoes--lightens the load for me and my husband doesn't always have to go without his taters.

I, too, have my own version of Alfredo. I don't use mozz or ricotta, either. Just a creamy pamesan sauce, using olive oil, onions & garlic, parmesan cheese, skim milk and arrowroot powder as a thickener. Delicious tossed with whole-grain pasta with lots of veggies!

Lasagne can be easily remade with lower fat ricotta, skip the meat and layer in vegetables. Better yet, layer your creation with zucchini and eggplant slices instead of noodles. That's yummy, too.

I'm not a soda addicted too.

I'm not a soda addicted too. I drink it very rarely. Maybe not more than five times a month. Usually when I go to fast food restaurant. I have started thinking to stop it totally for months ago. But I always failed when I see my friend drink it. I guess my solution is stop both eating fast food and drinking soda as those are a great match.

I kicked the soda habit

I kicked the soda habit once. I was a non-caffeine soda junkie. I found it is not just kicking the soda habit, but replacing it with water that helps most. This fills you with a natural cleanser and helps to detox your body of the....toxins. I see it work in men quickly in term of weight loss, but in women it makes you healthy. You see the progress over time and the benefits out weigh the cravings. Good luck!

Yum. Fettucine Alfredo is one of my favorite foods. I'll have to give it a whirl with the calorie-friendly suggestions you made. I've also made it with low fat cream cheese, parm cheese, and skim milk combined and heated in the microwave. Delish.

Substitute with whole grain pasta!

That's my easiest, simplest substitution for this and any pasta meal. There's pasta made of whole wheat, or brown rice, or quinoa, or kamut...so many healthy choices. I really like the Eden brand Kamut pasta. In fact I just did I post here, on how to make ho-hum tomato sauce into something that will make you healthy, happy and yummified!

This is a tough one for me

I've never been a fan of full sugar soda, but diet pop is my downfall. I've given it up too many times to count. Only once did I try cold turkey, and I thought I might die, the headaches were so bad. I've given it up slowly too, and even stayed off it for months, but it creeps back in. I know it's bad for me, and my kids give me a hard time about my addiction. I probably at 3 a day, but it's been worse.

I would love to only drink water.
