Been there, done that, and can enjoy the memories now. At the time... I didn't enjoy it much. Glitter is worse than projectile vomiting. I truly believe that.

Could be...

I tried out JBJ for the first time last week and it did indeed drive new traffic to my blog. The video player also gave me an opportunity to use my Amazon affiliate code -- something I've had for a while but haven't really figured out a relevant way to incorporate in my blog. Now whether anyone will actually click and BUY anything and thus turn that into any dollars (or cents) for my site, I don't know, but at least it gave me a handy way to try it out.

I think the JBJ videos are well done, come from a very balanced, not-too-preachy perspective, and are easy to embed. The model of allowing bloggers to bring the content to our sites, but also to have the posts show up instantly on JBJ is great. And overall I think it is a terrific way to provide conversation starters for blogs. This is not much different from the model of drop-in articles for newsletters, except that it is much, much more interactive and of course there is a two-way opportunity for revenue (more traffic to JBJ's site, more traffic to the JBJ site). My blog is not yet monetized, but I am hoping this will eventually help me get there.

I use all three technologies (FB, Twitter, JBJ), but in different ways, and I use Twitter the least at the moment. I use Facebook heavily and actually learned of JBJ through Facebook. I am not sure one replaces the other, so much as all are tools in my blogger's Swiss Army knife (as is BlogHer!)

Size Doesn't Matter

GM is huge but it is failing - in business it's about the bottom line. Having a million cusotmers and losing money is not as attractive as a niche audience that is profitable.

If Juicebox Jungle can come up with a businesss model that works online then they will achieve what Facebook and Twitter as of yet have not. Is that putting the hot dog cart before Le Cirque? Perhaps because Juicebox Jungle's buisness model isn't proven. That was the point of hte post...a company that is introduxing a new way to make money online. We'll have to wait and see if they succeed where others have not or if they have the same financial issues as the others.

Comparing Juicebox Jungle to Twitter or Facebook is like comparing Le Cirque to a hotdog cart. Come on now.

As someone who has been blogging for nearly five years, I am at the point where I would welcome a content provider that had interesting video that I could then create a post around, providing my viewpoint and hopefully having a conversation with readers. So this model appeals to me --I'm sure there will be several iterations before "it sticks" but I think the concept has "legs" and it will be interesting to see who runs with this.

Very interesting

I am fascinated to watch as new ways of integrating advertising into video content are developed. I still believe that product placement is going to dominate in the future. For instance, I totally missed the Sephora pop up and had to rewind and only knew to do so because you flagged the time point.

Nonetheless this model is quite interesting. The quality of the videos is high which will improve their chances of bloggers featuring the content and succeeding with the financial model. Thanks for sharing it with us, Elana!

I love JuiceboxJungle - we live in Switzerland and it is refreshing to hear the topics all my friends and I think about and discuss in relation to kids being discussed in an innovative, amusing and informative fashion online....I think these three will go far!

My 18 month old doesn't recognize numbers yet, but I have saved this little tip for future use. (Is it totally weird that I'm now thinking I should work a lot harder on the number thing?)

Same thing with my son except he's always been a terrible sleeper.

First time I told him the seven rule, he called me in at 3:47!! I then had to explain WHERE the seven had to be.

He's six and gets up everyday, at 7:00am. He lays in bed, quietly, and waits for 7 and then gets himself up. The kid is better and more reliable than an alarmclock!!

LOVE digital clocks.

For younger kids, a nightlight on a timer works miracles. "This light knows when it's night. It will turn off when it's morning." Set the timer to come one just before story time and go off at a 'reasonable' hour.

I've been telling my friends about this trick for awhile now. I actually learned it from my best friend's old sister as her oldest was waking at a ridiculous hour as well. BigBrother (3 in November) has been staying in bed until 7:00 (pronounced seven-zero-zero) since mid-spring. Of course, I'm normally already awake but it's nice to have some me-time first! But, yes, at 7:00 on the dot, he's READY TO GO.

These are tough subjects and I love the sensitivity in the way you bring them up. I've been talking to my patients about oral sex and the risk of herpes for years. Here's a link to the post.

The Beloved F Word

Liz, thanks for the comment. I think I'm just seeing it so much on blogs these days that it is losing its ability to shock or entertain. Now it just seems sort of sad and repetitious in a "look at me!" kind of way.

Having said that, George Carlin was a master at this, and I thought he was hysterical. So I guess it's all in how it's done. But like salt in a recipe, a little goes a long way. And sometimes you find you don't need salt at all.

I love the F word.

Absolutely love it. Love to use it; Love to hear it; Love to read it. To me, it's an emphatic, fun word with a sexual connotation that only makes it more fun to use. I certainly don't think it's lazy word use. It's using a word you love in a way you love to use it. It's often exactly the word you're looking for.

That said. I've come to realize that it hits many people the way you describe here, so in my blogging I try to hold back on the profanity now.
