I like that it is a long-term campaign

Many Internet campaigns are so fast that by the time you find out about them, they are over. I like that this one has time to gain momentum.

The key for me is schedule. First, I have to stick to a schedule. I wake up at 5am. Take care of any out of place things that didn't get put away the night before, pack lunches for my boys and then whatever time is left (typically 45 minutes) until I have to get the kids up for school is my time to read blogs, jot down ideas for posts, read comments, comment on blogs, etc. etc.

Then it is back to my life. Getting kids up and to school, getting things done around the house. Going to the gym. Playing with the baby.

At lunch I give myself another 45ish minutes to eat at the computer (after getting my duaghter off to school and the baby fed and napping) to write a post. I usually don't publish is, but schedule it to be published later. I try to stay as far ahead of the game as I can. So that there are appropriate posts ready everyday, even if there is no possible way I will be able to get on the computer that day.

I then give myself a couple hours on the weekends (Friday night/Saturday) to write and schedule posts and to read emails/blog surf.

It works well for me. I would never be able to do it if I couldn't schedule my life AND schedule my posts!

I Would Love To Quit My Day Job

I would love to quit my day job and blog full time, but alas I can't do that...at least not yet.

I absolutely love blogging and don't have enough hours in the day to write about everything I'd like to. I've got years of pent up creativity that finally has an outlet and I'm running with it.

I'm single and I don't have kids, but like Christina, I write during lunch breaks and after work and on the weekends. I try to balance it out so I'm not missing out on time with friends and family, but I resent more and more the time spent at my day job.

I quit my job

All I want to do is write (blog) too. I've made some major life changes in order to enable this to happen ... like quit my job. While I don't recommend this choice for everyone, I definitely believe that if something brings you a lot of joy - then you should follow that joy. If you are addicted to a little piece of happiness that belongs just to you then I highly recommend running with that happiness. As selfish as it may sound - even moms deserve a little something that has nothing to do with being a mom or a wife or ...

Since you are a mother with young kids, I can imagine that life can be isolating at times. If you can find a community online during times that work between a parenting schedule, it can only serve to bolster up your support network. Who can find fault with that?

You go girl!

The slump, oh yes. I have

The slump, oh yes. I have been there as recently as this summer.

Right now I'm on fire and in love with my blog again. I think the motivation comes and goes. I just try to remember not to chastise myself and for god's sake to not come in with those "Sorry I haven't been posting...BYEEEE" posts. Lame!

I also try to remember that the benefits have greatly outweighed the PITA aspects.

Good luck on NaNoWriMo.

Your thoughts are helping me with blogging AND home

All thoughtful perspectives. I can't say how much I appreciate them and feel like my eyes have opened up. Every comment certainly has given me ideas on how I can change things for the better.

First, I at least know I'm not alone and second, I need to rethink how I run my household and how I can get my blog time in. It seems everything suffers (except my kids) in order for me to feed my newfound addiction. And yes, Liz, it is a new addiction that I hope calms down soon.

Did everyone else find this as an addiction at first?

I want to do the blog for me, but I also feel as though I'm driven for readers? I want to be able to eventually also do this as a business, maybe not even necessarily my blog as a business, but writing for others...articles, etc. Maybe this is what's driving the addiction?

~Mia.

My blog is General Hysteria~

I feel your pain. . .

I, too, am new to blogging.

And I've found that the very act of blogging has turned my life upside-down.

I wake up in the wee-hours of the morning and plan future blog posts. . . I steal time after my daughters leave for school to catch up on visitors to my blog overnight and end up five minutes late for work each morning. . . I steal furitive glances at my blog all day as I work. . . and can't wait until my "mother" chores are finished at night to blog again.

It seems that blogging has become all-consuming!

I have to assume that - sooner or later - this "blogging mania" will settle down a bit and become a comfortable, tranquil, and easy element of my everyday life.

Let's make a pact to enjoy the ride while it's all still new and exciting for us.

Make a schedule and stick

Make a schedule and stick with it. I have four children all below 8 years old. I am a SAHM and do not have a maid. I love to blog too, but I found out that I am more productive when children are all asleep and the house toned down.

I blog very early in the morning. I wake up 3 hours earlier than the children and I blog, check my email and read my RSS reader. With the use of an RSS reader, I read news, blogs and I dump interesting articles for blogging in folders as well as interesting articles for commenting in a separate folder. I tackle the comments first, then blog right after.

I also found it useful to have a diary and notebook where you can jot down blogging ideas for commenting or for writing when I am working with my children or doing housework. I also use the notepad of my cellphone in case I am out of the house and an idea pops out for use the next morning.

Try to prioritze and your children and housework should come in first. When the housework and children are settled, then you can blog quietly and more effectively.

I'm a nurse as well as a freelance writer&blogger...Blogging can become addictive in a way, so, I'm working outside 64 hour days, with every other weekend off. My evenings & off days, after taking care of chores, errands and such, I dive into catching up on emails, other folks blogs, chasing down freelance gigs and reconnecting with family/friends....

A woman in midlife, I'm loving every phase of this creativity that I'm blessed with. hang in there and schedule a routine that will work for you and the kids,as well as husband, friends, family...don't forget your 'me' time for rejuvenation:)
