BlogHer rocks

Wow, thanks so much for the positive feedback! BlogHer rocks! I just got started and already the experience has been beyond what I imagined it would be. Very positive and exciting! I'm very grateful. I've learned things already. I'm very serious about my quest to learn more, becoming more tech savvy, and developing my creative/arstistic blog. Already have met some intelligent and very interesting women. I'm soooo excited about all this!!!

I saw this post early and said "You must go answer!" and then I got busy and just now got back to it... and here are two great CEs jumping in to talk to you.

I love these women and I'm so glad you're taking the time to try new things and ask questions.

Awesome!

Essential HTML...

Thank you thank you thank you! I will read your article. My experience here at BlogHer has already been great, beyond what I imagined it would be, so soon.

I have learned so much already, here and from Bloggingbasics101 (which led me here), and I think a year from now I will be so much more informed/educated. I'm going to teach myself HTML, (think I'll check if City College has a course, that couldn't hurt), learn everything and anything I need to know, so I can develop this creative/artistic blog idea. I'm really excited, working on this project.

rich text and html

Thank you so much! Yep, I had a feeling Rich-Text had some relationship to HTML. Yes, I understand. Rich-Text, then, nullifies HTML, clashes with it, so you have to clear it, i.e. "disable Rich-Text", to use HTML.

I'm glad I found this site. I'm glad I found Bloggingbasics101 which led me to this site. I've already learned a few things I need/want to know. This excites me. If I have learned this much so far, a year from today, whoa, watch out!

What Gena said

When you disable rich text you can use full HTML, which means you can copy code to embed video, Flickr images, and other neat stuff for your post. You can also use HTML tags for things like links and lists.

Here's an article I wrote a while back about Essential HTML for BlogHer Posts.

Yep, It Does Have to Do With HTML

There are better people to explain but BlogHer rich text is kinda like word processing, there is hidden code in the background that helps folks do hyperlinks and other stuff.

For those of us that upload video that rich text makes placing the embed video code go nutsy. By switching to Disable Rich-Text and then selecting full HTML we can copy and paste the code directly (do not hit the preview button) and then upload.

The text and video appear correctly.

I can't do the crawfish but the chicken, I'm in! Yat's only really makes it with Crawfish but occasionally they have it with chicken and when I tried it, I fell in love! Sinfully delish!

Hi there

I'm a lecturer in new media, and I teach a lot of the stuff you are learning...as for how I started my career...

I just jumped in the deep end. Got a computer, got a job designing a Flash website (just started getting literate on a computer) and just winged it, learning as I went.

I actually find it quite weird teaching these things to students, as I constantly find myself thinking - "why are you waiting for me to tell you how to do stuff...when I was learning, I just had to FIGURE IT OUT FOR MYSELF!" which probably just means I'm getting old and crochety.

From another Lonely Kid on the playground

Cameron- I'm commenting just to let you know your blog is still being read all these months later. I agree so much: I too am new to blogging and was wondering how to get mine read more. I found yours under the search setting for blogs about Facebook, as is mine. Yes, I vainly search for it every day to see if anyone is reading it. No one is. Now that I've read yours, (and I'd like to read others of yours if I only knew how) would you read mine? It's called My Facebook Diary pgs. 1-10 about my trip into a Facebook reunion of sorts. I don't know how to tell you to find it other than enter Facebook into the search then click Blogher.com instead of the default Blogher network which is I sense a much larger pool of blogs to get lost in.

Hope to hear from you soon!

YES! I so wish I had remembered this one! Some of them are so bad you can't raed the writing at all! What is the point of that?? Now I know the 'rules' say to keep your background white and your type plain and dark--I break that one. I have a blue background to go with the theme of my life with the boys, however I try to keep it as visually easy on the eyes as possible. Thanks for your response.

I actually don't mind the 'digressing'...I do it much and often and well. What I don't like is when a blogger claims that they 'digress' after only a sentence or two of getting off track. Like they're being sooo funny. Like in their head, it really felt like they digressed quite a bit when in actuality, it was a mere blip of digression that no one else reading it will feel has occurred necessitating an apology regarding digression.

But I digress...what I meant to say was: thanks for reading and commenting. =)
