What's your proudest fitness achievement? This is a hard question to answer.

I could say my first triathlon was my proudest fitness achievement. I completed my first tri August 2001. The race "slogan" was "The woman who starts the race is not the same woman who finishes the race." The Danskin was a HUGE marker in my journey in believing I could change.

Of course, there was the marathon I finished. I was slow… painfully slow, but finished despite an injury that stopped my training 4 weeks out. That was a pretty incredible moment.

However, my most emotional moment was finishing my first Olympic distance triathlon. That event, by far, stretched me the most… It was after that I finally let myself say, "I am a triathlete."

I'm not trying to brag here, and I do not have a flat belly. I used to be a triathlete or to run marathons, you had to have a flat belly. Not so much. I see these as pivotal moments in my path towards fitness that make-up the bigger picture of my proudest fitness achievement - not going back to where I lived for so long. From ages 8 to 29, I was trapped in a unhealthy cycle. I was on some sort of diet or exercise kick (yes even at 8) for over 20 years.

My proudest fitness achievement is not one event. My proudest fitness achievement is defeating a long history of bondage to an unhealthy approach to life… not just having to do with food. Even now, I say this with caution. I know how easy it would be for me to slip back to my old habits. I have to watch myself carefully. I see little slides back. The great things is, today, I know how to fight this.

It is daily choices that make up the big picture of who I have become, and who I will be next year. These days, I will choose a short run over a bowl of ice cream when I get stressed. But not every time, just to be clear. Fitness has been an evolution, not an extreme sport. If anyone had told me I'd be writing and sharing here, partnering with Crystal Light on a fitness theme ten years ago… I'd have shot soda pop out my nose. I was trapped. So I guess my proudest fitness achievement is that… I am not trapped anymore.

I GAINED ABOUT 30 POUNDS BACK WHEN I QUIT AND IM WORKING ON LOSING THOSE 30 POUNDS AGAIN AND I KNOW I WILL DO IT EVENTUALLY! I DONT SMOKE AND IM LIGHTER THAN WHAT I WAS BEFORE!

MY PROUDEST ACHEIVEMENT WAS WHEN I STARTED DANCING AND TONED UP. I DROPPED THE WEIGHT BUT BUILT MUSCLE IN THE PROCESS. I WISH I COULD GO BACK IN THE PAST AS I'D BE MORE CAREFUL ON WHAT I ATE IN THE FUTURE. kytah00@yahoo.com

My daughter will very soon (yikes) be a teenager and I so want her to have a healthy body image (much unlike me at that age). I try to light the way so to speak by being confident and proud of my current body even though it's not exactly Victoria Secret size or shape. I want my daughter to see me eating healthy and keeping fit not to be skinny but to be healthy and happy!

I stay inspired to eat right and keep on track, (in my goal to eat healthy) each day by starting my day off on the right foot. When I begin my day the healthy way, I'm more likely to stay on course.

When I'm tempted by food(s) I know will lead me off course, I just remind myself of the good way I started the day. Reminding myself of the good start I gave my day makes me less likely to give up when someone breaks out the cookies and donuts at work!

keeping fitness books like The Primal Blueprint, and by weight lifting. I watch the Jersey Shore, and Mike the Situation inspires me to work on my chiseled abs, lol.

What keeps me inspired about staying fit is weighing myself every morning & every night. I have a super accurate view of how my choices each day affect my weight & I definitely hate to see the number go up. My husband says I could be obsessed, but it's how I stay focused on keeping my weight down! :)
I recently lost about 60lbs the "old fashioned way" (eating right & exercising) and definitely don't want to go back to that girl I now see in the old photographs!

this will sound incredibly cheesy, but I mean this: My proudest moment is any time I walk out of the gym, or walk into my home, knowing I did the best workout I could. I love getting my exercise finished early in the morning, but it's not always easy to crawl out of bed at 5:15 am. Each day that contributes to my races or my training or just my well-being is a moment of which to be proud.

The desire to look good for my spouse tends to be the biggest inspiration for staying fit.

to a size 9/10 this year!!!

I lost the weight by changing my eating habits more than anything. I have a bad back and can't do a lot of exercise.

I can say my back feels soooooooo much better now that I lost the weight too! :)

That is GREAT! If I didn't set goals like that, I would not be where I am today :)

She is a dynamo. And she's only 2 years younger than me. While I feel like a slug, she's dancing the night away. She wants to travel, and you gotta be in shape to travel! So I have to say that she is my inspiration, otherwise I'm afraid I'd just give up...

I remember in college when completing a mile was a big deal. I was never a runner, always a swimmer.

Last summer, I decided that since we were done having kids, it was time to get back into shape. We got a puppy, and taking the dog out for jogs inspired me to get out bed. Now that the dog can hold her urine all night, I have to use other means.

Both last summer and this summer, I've signed up for a women-only 5k race. There's something about paying some money and making a commitment to run 3.1 miles that gets me out the door. Just this week I managed to run the entire distance during a training run. I'm hoping to beat last year's time by at least 8 minutes by running the whole thing.

Just call me B!

I ran a marathon...and am training for another!!!

This may not seem like a big deal but I (once) ran a mile in 10 and a half minutes. I don't like to run, and I have asthma, so it was a big accomplishment for me.

My proudest moment was in November last year when I did the Susan G Komen breast cancer 3 day. At the end of day one I didn't think I would make it. But, I pushed myself and managed to walk all three days. It was grueling but amazing. I'm doing it again this year!

What keeps me inspired is that I love to swim. I look forward to swimming 3 times a week. I like doing it and I like how I feel afterword. Thanks for the contest.
