Curbside Appeal with Hardscape
Curbside appeal can be created with hardscape choices.
Above the herringbone pattern in the bricks, river stone light scones and neutral paint tones work well. The owner kept the landscaping choices green and white. This keeps it simple. With the textures many different flower types might appear "busy." Privet hedge, white roses ( the icberg variety my Gandmother called the five sisters because the flowers have multi blooms from one stem) and lawn are calming.
I am fond of picket fences. The cozy idea of a white
slatted fence with roses, lavender and cosmos smiling
through the openings welcomes friends and family to
your entryway. Not all houses are suited to the cottage
look that I enjoy.
Above next to the cute classic car... river stone leads you up the stairs. The clapboard entry and classic porch has Craftsman roots. Rather than paint this dark colors, the owner chose neutral light tones that seem to invite you to "come on up and have some tea."
Here are some samples of rock, brick and stone choices that will make you start drawing plans of your own.
Wow look at my neighbor's hydrangeas! I love an
American flag out front in the morning, don't you?
Stone imported from a castle in France, no less.
But look at the bones of this design. Gracious shade from
the amazing trees at Smithcliffs, all white impatiens, low privet
and azalias that are not sculpted like poodles. Shutters in a muted
teal and oh la la that front door.
All photographs are mine. I hope you are enjoying your
summer. I can be found in my garden, editing my next novel
or doing home loans.
Second post how did I do at the evil red tiny box that wouldn't
let me upload?
