Before my kids could even walk, they were splashing around in a swimming pool. We are ALL water babies in this family and LOOOOVE to be outside swimming. If we lived close to a beach, we would be there every, single week! No doubt. We were ecstatic to move into a new house with our very own swimming pool last year! I could not keep my kids out of it!...more
Can I tell you how excited I am for summer to finally arrive? The past two wintersprings (because that's what they've been) have really taken a toll on me. I'm crossing my fingers that Lake Superior will actually melt and that we will have many days that are warm enough for beaching it. Because I'm all set to beach bum it again this summer!...more
We live in pool-ville. Many of our friends have pools; we have wonderful community pools, and frankly -- when it's over 110 degrees -- it's time to SWIM. I love going to the pool with friends, and sitting in the water chatting together. One of the keys to a great pool day is a well-stocked pool bag, so I'm not stressed when we're leaving, or missing something when we get there. Here's what I keep in my pool bag:...more
Summer is coming, can you feel it? Winter is FINALLY GONE!!! Here comes rolling in the grass, playing in the sun, swimming until you prune and layering on the sunscreen. As a mother of two boys, I can tell you, more hours will be spent OUTside than INside. More bug spray and sweating and playing in the woods will come along as well. We love being outside. We garden and ride bikes and scoot and play any sport involving a ball! Oh, and water in every form, of course....more
I am so excited that summer is finally here. The pool parties, cookouts, picnics, and fun in the sun that goes with it is just the best - especially with a full-on toddler to enjoy it with this year! Another perk of summer is how my skin looks. Is it just me, or is your skin at its best during the summer? Maybe it's the glow from a little bit of sun or just the energy from being out and about - but I love the way my skin looks and feels during summertime....more
When we found out we were moving to Charlotte last year, we were thrilled. It was somewhere we'd always talked about living, even though we didn't know too much about the area. When we came to house hunt, we were drawn to the lake. So peaceful and beautiful, we could just envision relaxing family time there. 5 months later, we're settled in our new home and we couldn't be happier with our location....more
I've had a weird skin situation since I was eleven years old. Thankfully, now that I know I have Celiac Disease, it is pretty much gone. You have no idea how much I truly mean it when I say, I wish I would have known sooner. I've been so paranoid about Knox & Sloane having skin issues because I know how unfortunate it can be. I will say I'm very grateful I've never had any face/acne skin issues, and I know at their age, that won't really be an issue. Knox did have a bad rash for several months from about 8 months old until a year. Thankfully it passed....more
It’s almost been a year since we’ve been here and we are loving it. As with any move, you can’t help but notice the little tendencies and customs about your new state: 10. It is so family friendly and deal friendly – family passes and discounts everywhere. The pool, bumper boats, discount theaters, miniature golf, baseball and basketball games. There are always good deals to be found!...more
It's May. MAY! How did that happen? Where did the spring go? Why are the yearly dues for the pool already...well, due? I'm sitting in my living room & the chestnut tree in our front yard bloomed perfect pink & yellow blossoms & I'm writing a check, sealing our entire summer of sunshine & chlorine. I can feel the warmer sunshine & the air conditioning hums. For so many cold months, Doug & I promised Harrison that the warm weather would come again, that the pool would eventually open after Mother's Day, right around Momma's birthday....more
There's a lot to love about summer, right? Lazy mornings, afternoons at the pool, staying up late - it can be pretty darn wonderful. It's safe to say the kids may never have more fun in their whole life than they do on summer days spent at the beach or the splash pad. I absolutely love watching their excitement.....more
