Cussing In The Work Place

Well according to MSNBC Breaking News it seems like we have taken another step away from civility no longer is cursing and swearing just in rush hour traffic, schoolyards, R-rated movies and adult shows on cable, it seems like its perfectly acceptable in the work place, its good to know that on my "time of the month I know have the perfect excuse for an annoying male to #$#@ off or kiss my a$$ $@@& face.

Sure that's sets a bad example I just can't see myself doing that in front of my daughter on "Take Your Daughter To Work Day" and setting a bad example to my daughter whom I try to steer away from developing a potty mouth.

Do I swear? Well the answer is yes, occasionally I do usually in private or if in public then in times of extreme stress or frustration but I do try hard to discipline myself the best I can, but in today's world its becoming exceedingly difficult, especially with our idiot in chief in the White House, he does provide an enticing figure to swear at. What I find troubling the powers that be, seem to be totally at ease promoting swearing on the job as a good stress reliever whatever happened to yoga or meditation or exercise? Is the work place going the way of Gangster Rap, Yo bitch where my coffee? Hey fuck face didnt I tell you to Fed Ex this package! Hey shit breath mother fuckin ho bitch didnt I till you to fix the copy machine? Okay you think this little scenario will relieve or create even more stress, and more anger....whats next? Using your glock to relieve stress?

At a Catholic girls' school, I learned to cuss with the biggest potty mouth you could imagine. Then I had kids - and at age 3, my oldest let loose a string that would make a sailor blush. And, being the hip, modern mom - I sat him down, made a deal. "Pick a word or two," said I, "that will be only yours. I won't use them - just you will. And then you won't use the grown up words I use, ok?" (We always ended directives to our kids with "ok?")

Well, he picked his words - the next week, the preschool teacher took me aside and gently told me my son's language was way over the top. I pretty much stopped swearing - embarrassed into controlling my tongue. When my daughter had her first baby 18 months ago, I told her and her hubby - both Navy sailors, how it would be if they didn't clean up their language. They laughed and said they had plenty of time.... Now, guess what my little grandson came out with the other day?

I laughed and said - "it won't get any better! "
If we do it in the workplace - is permission to cuss in school next? Holy smoke, I can just imagine the future!

I will admit that I curse more than I should and also admit that it is probably a good thing that I work from home.

Even working from home over the years I have experienced some surprising phone calls with co-workers and supervisors - some of the women (and they are almost all women) curse worse, longer and harder than I dreamed possible. I can remember the first time a former boss dropped the F bomb during a conference call, it was my first week on the job. I was a little shocked. OK a lot shocked.

When DID it become acceptable or has it always been and I just never noticed it before. Or maybe I wasn't exposed to it before since I spent most of my time working in elementary schools....
