Cynthia McKinney: A Lesser-known Presidential Candidate
by yotebug

I swore I wasn't going to post political arguments, but I seem to have failed numerous times.  So I'm just going to stop apologizing.  McCain's okay, but Sarah Palin scares the shit out of me.  I see her face and my ovaries start to tremble in fear.

But who honestly even gives a flying crap about who the other presidential candidates are?  I mean, besides Obama of course.  For the general public it's all they see: Obama vs. McCain.  But do they know anything about Cynthia McKinney?  She's an independent running for the Green Party, and if our electoral system wasn't such a mess and actually allowed for more than two opponents in the limelight, she would make a great leader.  I'd love to see her battle it out with Obama and McCain.  For my own personal beliefs, she probably represents them the best, and she's the only major candidate who fully supports equal rights (in all areas) for the GLBT community.  She's a huge advocate against "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and wants to make even marriages an equal opportunity.

On other issues, she stands firm as well.  She's in support of making emergency contraceptive (as in the Morning After pill) more affordable and accessible, and she believes in a woman's right to control her own body and choose.  She's in favor of better sex education in schools and wants more federal funding for clinics that specialize in abortion.  She's a staunch supporter of universal health care and increasing government spending for it.

I mean, I don't necessarily agree on everything she stands for, but I've found her views to be a better fit to my own than either Obama or McCain.  But will anyone vote for her?  Of course, they will, but not nearly enough to actually land her in the race.

As much as I like McKinney and feel she's the better woman for the job, I'll tell you why I'm NOT voting for her.  In America especially, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, and in an electoral system like ours, the only REAL options are Republican or Democrat.  If you want your vote to actually count, you have to vote for one or the other, regardless of who you truly believe would be the better candidate.  If you don't vote for Obama or McCain, it's like your vote didn't even register.  So I guess for me, it's voting for the less of two evils.  Though the real devil here is Sarah Palin, and she's the reason I'm voting for Obama.

She's not a pitbull.  That's an insult to dogs.  I don't know what she is, but I don't want her in office.  REGISTER TO VOTE!

The end.

The Devil

Wait a minute, I thought Pres. Bush was the Devil?

Why can't Liberals have a political debate on issues without nasty name calling?

You lose all credibily when you say things like Sarah Palin is the devil. I suggest you read about ad hominem attacks.

As for McKinney, whatever happened to her for assaulting that cop?

Here are some of her recent comments below. She says that 5,000 prisoners were killed and dumped in a Louisiana swamp. Of course, she has no proof, but for most Liberals facts aren't necessary.
