Dancing with the Stars Recap: The Top 7 Open on Broadway

BlogHer Original Post

It's time to bring down the curtain on SOME people, know what I mean?

After being unable to recap for the last two weeks (and FTR: I thought Chynna would go after that completely meltdown-y Tango) I'm happy to be back! The show got right to it, and so will I.

1. Rob and Cheryl danced a Cha Cha to "Walk Like a Man" from Jersey Boys

So, hmm. Yes, Rob did some good butt vibrating. And a "nice" enough job. But that's the extent of it. Nice, fine, adequate, as I think Bruno said. Combine that with a way too long schtick at the beginning...and at the end, and it's small wonder the judges were down on them. I think he could be at risk, but doesn't deserve to go home.

2. Nancy and Tristan danced a Foxtrot to "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" from Spamalot

Nancy, IMHO, hasn't shown much improvement. She is heavy on her feet, in fact they barely came off the ground with all the little hops. Tristan didn't help matters by being all Mark Ballas and dancing circles around her. She also lost her place at the very end, and they broke hold for quite a long time. I have no idea why the judges are so supportive of her, and perhaps she's the one Maks was complaining about getting praised for simply making an effort. She should be at risk, and I think it's time for her to go.

3. David and Kym danced a Quick Step to "We Go Together" from Grease

Cute but unremarkable. Yes, he had good energy, but it wasn't really frothy and bubbly like I like my Quick Step. And he shaved. I kind of liked his dashing goatee look. I still like him and root for him, but this wasn't his best effort, and he might be at risk.

4. Ricki and Derek danced a Quick Step to "Luck be a Lady" from Guys and Dolls

There you go, now that's a frothy Quick Step, although her costume really hid her technique. I found it surprising they were SO enthusiastic, given you couldn't see what her legs were even really doing. But you can't argue with Ricki's performance skills…this is where she's displaying some acting chops.

5. Chaz and Lacey danced a Tango to "The  Phantom of the Opera" from Phantom of the Opera

Well, he got through it, but it was a bit flat-footed and stomping without being driven and graceful. There's not much more to say at this point. Chaz is still on because he has the support of the audience, not because he's shining at the dancing, and not even because he's showing dogged improvement. I think he may last another week, but eventually it will be time to go…and it really could have been that time any week since the beginning.

6. Hope and Maks danced a Rumba to "Seasons of Love" from Rent

Interesting that Len thought it was her worst dance, because I thought it was her best dance, although not perfect by any means. She simply seemed to have the most grace and passion. And seemed the most comfortable with her body and her moves. Maks did what he does, which is get all rude and, this time, more imperious than typical…really? This is his show, and he made it? Whatevs. I think his tantrum hurts Hope, and puts her at even greater risk than she already was. (And yes, those boots were a big old mistake.)

7. JR and Karina danced a Quick Step to "Hot Honey Rag" from Chicago

Great job. What else is there to say. He's just snappy, light on his feet, effervescent, charming. And he's got that whole back story going for him. I still call him for the win. With Ricki close behind.

Bottom Line for the Bottom Two:

Should be: Nancy and Chaz. With Chaz going home.

Will be: Hope and David with David going home.

But what did you think?
