OK, it's tightening up here at DWtS, as 4 of the couples continue to consistently shine, one couple fights to join those four as a front-runner couple, and two couples indicate they have come about as far as they can.

Everyone danced a different style last night, which is fun, on the one hand, because of all the variety, but does rob you of the ability to directly compare one couple to another on the same style.

Let's dig right in:

1. Melissa and Tony kicked it off with an Argentine Tango

Melissa is so close to looking perfect, like a real professional. This was very good and very difficult, featuring exciting choreography and great, interesting lifts. The only thing that kept it from being perfect was a few moments when Melissa betrayed a moment of hesitation before moving into her next movement or step. She never got off beat or anything quite so glaring as that, and perhaps it was simply a flash of fear on her face, but whatever it was, there were several moments where it was clear she was still the amateur. If anyone has the potential to leave that completely behind this season, it is Melissa. Like I've been saying: Basically a ringer. She will continue to be safe all the way to the finals, I should think.

2. LT and Edyta danced the Waltz

LT tries, but the guy does not have graceful or elegant in him. He stomps about the floor flat-footed, and this week there were obvious mis-steps. He has worked on his performance skills, so he managed to maintain a pleasant face throughout, hardly ever looking down at his feet or furrowing his brown in concentration, but that's not going to be enough to keep him in this competition with some of the other folks competing. He's no Emmitt Smith! It seems a no-brainer that he should be in the Bottom 2, and perhaps may even be going home tonight.

3. Lil Kim and Derek danced the Rumba

Like Melissa, this was pretty great. And like Melissa, there were but a few awkward moments transitioning from one segment to the next where you felt, for a moment, how much this doesn't come naturally to these celebs. Kim needs to watch her over-the-top facial expressions, but this routine was filled with lovely moves and very skillful moves that made her look like a professional dancer. Derek really knows how to elongate Lil Kim's lines, despite her small stature...something Mark might want to think about doing more with Shawn. I think Lil Kim is finalist material all the way.

4. Chuck and Julianne danced the Samba

Chuck is the underdog...once I dismissed him as obviously not going to last long, but he has been working hard, and of course Julianne is probably the best female partner a guy on this show can have. This Samba did surprise me. First it surprised me early in the routine, when he seemed to be picking her up via her boobs in one move. Pretty sure those hands were choreographed to be somewhere else and slipped! Then he surprised me with how loose he was managing to be, including some pretty believable hip action. He did start to wear out those hips midway through, but this was generally really good, and perhaps his best yet...yet again. I just don't think he can win, but he certainly should make it through to next week.

5. Ty and Chelsie danced the Waltz

It's true that Ty does better when he can just hold on, stay in frame and feature his good posture and accurate footwork. This was simple, nice, sweet, and he is pretty consistent and right on beat. But the difficulty level was minimal, and any time something got thrown at him on his own, like spinning, he got this little boy lost expression on his face. I have to imagine he'll be in the Bottom 2 this week, and like LT is the other couple at risk of leaving tonight.

6. Shawn and Mark danced the Cha Cha Cha

So far Shawn has excelled at elegant dances, and has impressed with athletic dances. Latin dances seemed like the ones she would have the least natural affinity for. Well, get out! because this Cha Cha Cha was her best yet. She was sexy, snappy, sassy and really got her groove on. I was totally surprised. She is on the hunt for the win, and it looks like she's loosening up and showing more sides to her personality just in time!

Although I didn't watch the last episode, I heard that Lawrence was kicked off instead off Ty and am very thrilled about that.

Not because I think Ty's any good but I really enjoyed Chelsie on So You Think You Can Dance and cant wait to see more of her dancing!

We used to watch that show. Whle we were taking dancing lessons. Then we realized that their idea of the dances were very different from our idea of the dances, and we got all wigged out and stopped watching.
