Dancing With the Stars Recap: The Top Eleven...Nearly Killed by a Dance!

After last week's "shocking" elimination of David Hasselhoff (and remember: They didn't tell us who was also in the bottom 2), all bets were off tonight. It was like a fresh start for everyone. Some made the most of it. Some? Not so much.

Let's get right down to it:

1. Rick Fox and Cheryl danced a jive

We heard a lot about Rick being a big, heavy guy with bad ankles. So given that? Great job. They found a song with a slightly slower beat than most jives, so I'm sure that helped. He had a ton of personality. Yes, not quite as "wow" as last week's waltz, but given his liabilities (his big size, his weak ankle) this was surprisingly impressive. Definitely safe.

2. Florence Henderson and Corky danced a quick step

Again, a bit slower than the normal quick step, but she acquitted herself respectably. She did get a little screwed up in the short Charleston section. But still, probably safe.

3. Brandy and Maks danced a jive

This had some really good moments, but the beginning was awkward, and there was a not very jive-like solo. She was quick to blame that solo on Maks, and the audience may not like her throwing him under the bus like that. Still, given her obvious skill and musicality: Should be safe.

4. Michael Bolton and Chelsie danced a jive

Um, that did not seem to go well at all. In particular, it seemed to fall apart towards the end. He's got a surprising lack of musicality for a singer, and he was just stiff -- he hardly seemed to be dancing at all. Ouch. I'm guessing he's in trouble.(And on a purely speculative note: I don't think Chelsie will be sad.)

5. Audrina Patridge and Tony danced a Quick Step

That was pretty impressive just for its speed and difficulty. Yes sometimes she looked like she was running a race, not dancing, but generally, she did very well. She did have a section where she seemed to get lost, but it got pulled together quickly. I think she'll be safe.

6. Jennifer Grey and Derek danced a jive

I'm calling it: She's winning. With the Dirty Dancing fan base AND she caught the fact that she had cancer while getting a physical for this show? And still made it to the season? And, by the way, she's a good dancer? That's a reality TV trifecta! Safe, oh so safe. (PS: Go Tom Bergeron with the full-on Lotus pose! And Sarah Palin should be on The View or, even better, the fourth hour of The TODAY Show. She's charming as long as she doesn't mention socialism.

7. Margaret Cho and Louis danced a jive

Pretty cute, and so much better than last week. She did run out of a little gas towards the end, but at least she took it seriously, and I think that paid off. If she was safe last week, you gotta figure she's safe this week, don't you think?

8. Kyle Massey and Lacey danced a quick step

That was OK. It seemed a bit confusing, though. And his feet really didn't seem that good to me. I'm not quite seeing the incredible charisma the judges are, so I saw a lot more of the mistakes than the charm, I guess. Still, I'm guessing he's safe.

9. Kurt Warner and Anna danced a jive

Not as good as last week. Kurt seemed more awkward this week. He wasn't straightening out his arms fully, and his legs weren't ever extending sharply. But he has a surprisingly amount of energy and musicality. And he's handsome...so I'm thinking he's safe.

10. Mike Sorrentino and Karina danced a quick step

Well, better than last week, I suppose. But pretty flat-footed. And he sported a furrowed brow of concern throughout, almost looking at his feet. He isn't embarrassing himself, but he doesn't deserve to stick around for long at this rate.

11. Bristol Palin and Mark danced a quick step

Nice job. She did seem to be holding on to Mark for dear life, and she got a little behind the beat on the fastest parts, but in general she has an innocent charm about her

Michael Bolton was just terrible. It hurt to watch.

Jennifer Grey is the only one I can see winning at this point. However, I don't think she's a wringer like they had last year, so at least it will be interesting.

Margaret Cho's outfit this week was so much more flattering. She looked good!

Mike S. isn't that great, but I am pleasantly surprised at his work ethic. I'd like to see him do better.

You said the exact things I was thinking. Jennifer is an awesome dancer and I hope she wins. But Bristol and Audrina are both pretty good too so who knows how it will go?
