A Day Being the Mom I Want to Be
During a knock-down drag-out with my two year old yesterday I thought back to when my oldest was two: the tea parties, the long walks, the days at the zoo. My current two year old spends half the day in his car seat picking up his older siblings and delivering them to their various schools and activities. The other half of the day we spend fighting. We fight as I try to get the chores done, the food cooked, the laundry folded and from the front door, to the car and back.
I have lots of things I would love to do with him, other than drag him around all the time, so today darn the torpedoes. After taking two kids to two separate schools we went to the nature trail I drive by all the time and have never had the time to stop. We saw turtles and fish and listened to birds.
Next we went to pick the first sibling up and instead of running errands or sitting in the car while big brother did his reading we played with toys on the beach for an hour.
After picking big sister up at her school we came home and instead of starting dinner, I took him to the pool to wash the beach off.
My kitchen is now covered in groceries and my laundry pile runneth over. My tomorrow is going to be twice as much work as yesterday was, but my day with my two year old has never gone smoother.
