Day One. The first day of the rest of my life.

Day One.  The first day of the rest of my life.

My son lay in bed sick.  Yesterday I noticed that he did not look good. Today I see a boy who is in pain, asking for pain medicine, sleepy, flushed, and tense.  Given the prognosis, I know what the future holds yet do not want to anticipate it as a reality.  Time.  Spend as much time with him and soak up his essence as quickly as possible, for this time on earth together is limited and may be short and brief.

I look at his beautiful face and stroke his hair as he attempts to sleep away the pain that rages in his body.  Calming words fill his ears as teh mother within me attempts to calm the fear and anxiety that is wreaking havok within his being.

Day one: The beginning of the journey to the end of my son's life and the relationship together on this earth.  The first day of the rest of my life- strength is being summoned to bring me to a place of peace and acceptance as I watch him progress through this journey and enter into the heavenlies.  The journey of walking my son home has begun.
