Dear Holiday Weight Gain
By laughingmom on January 15, 2014
After a holiday hiatus, this week I am back to healthy eating and exercise.
Every year I promise to continue my routine even though it is the holidays. Without fail I slip into holiday over indulging, and sneak in naps instead of prioritizing gym time. Amazing how quickly clothes can feel tighter. It is difficult to blame the dryer for shrinking ALL your clothes. As always, the first treadmill run of the new year was a little more painful than it was before the holidays, a little slower (and whole lot sweatier).
But this year, I am not beating myself up about it. Instead, I am appreciating it for what it is.
Dear Holiday Weight Gain,
Thank you for reminding me why I bundle the kids in the middle of winter and head to the gym twice a week. You remind me I like eating healthy; I enjoy being healthy.
Thank you for reminding me I don't like feeling sluggish and bloated: That the effort I was putting in towards a healthy lifestyle was working.
Thank you for putting things into perspective. I didn't realize how far my fitness had progressed in the last year until I stopped pursuing it.
Thank you for giving me a personal goal again. Slipping back into good habits is easier when you recall the benefits.
You are a sign that I had the opportunity to overindulge. This is a blessing. Many people struggle to make ends meet.
You are an indication that I spent my holidays with friends and family. Isn't that what the holidays are meant to be about?
