Del Monte Farms

What an absolute treat meeting these tomato farmers. They were some of the sweetest people I've ever met. So generous and kind. Many of Del Monte's farmers are third generation partners with Del Monte Foods, especially in fruit where several families have grown fruit for Del Monte for more than 70 years. Their vegetable & tomato growers have been with Del Monte on average thirty years. I enjoyed visiting the Del Monte facility in Modesto, it gave me an insight on how our fruits and vegetables are brought to us....more

Del Monte: from farm to factory ($100 Visa gift card giveaway)

And while there is machine after impressive machine and such diligent attention to detail from the employees that obviously make a company as large as Del Monte able to supply the entire United States with it’s canned fruits and vegetables, the thing that surprised me the most the “realness” of this whole operation. What do I mean by “realness”?...more

Visiting Del Monte & Friends in Modesto, California

The peaches are hand picked (and trust me, that's a lot of peaches) and delivered to the Del Monte peach cannery just about 20 miles away where they're inspected and go through the canning process almost immediately. While all of Del Monte's peaches are grown in California, most of them are canned within six hours of being picked. If you think about the amount of peaches being preserved, it's absolutely amazing how proficient their system is....more

Del Monte Harvest Tour + $100 Visa Gift Card Giveaway

"Movin' to the country...gonna eat a lot of peaches......" Ok ok, I may not be moving to the country. But I definitely ate a lot of peaches on my recent trip to California visit Del Monte. Actually, we had the amazing opportunity to literally pick peaches fresh off the tree, and then follow them literally from farm to "table" all the way through the canning process and into some delicious dishes that I can't wait to share with you. It was incredible. It was inspiring. It was fascinating. It was delicious. And of course, I would say the whole experience was downright "peachy"....more

From Garden to Your Kitchen with Del Monte

I never knew much about the canning process that takes place in factories, but after the tour I found it to be very similar to how me, you, your mom, and grandma, would can! All of Del Monte's fruit and vegetables are picked at the peak of ripeness and almost immediately (sometimes even same day) canned. Their garden quality promise is this: grow in the best soil, pick at the peak of ripeness, and can them quickly. That's pretty much how we all do it, right? We get all our fruit in the summertime and then we can them for use in the winter. Same idea here....more

Easy Peach Sorbet Recipe and Del Monte Harvest

A few weeks ago, I was invited to visit with Del Monte in Modesto, California to visit with some of their farming families as well as to tour their cannery.  We were able to experience first-hand the whole process from harvesting in the fields through canning and packaging. While I was there, I fell in love with the two farming families we visited, the amazing, delicious scent of peaches that filled the air surrounding the Del Monte cannery, and the fabulous Simple Peach Sorbet they served us during a break, of which I'll tell you more about in a bit....more
