Democrats Debate in Texas-OPEN THREAD DISCUSSION
by Erin Kotecki Vest

Texas Showdown. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama face off in Austin at a debate sponsored by CNN, Univision and the Texas Democratic Party, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. ET. CNN will provide a live stream online if you are not in front of your tv.

Texas BlogHers are stepping into the fray with commentary leading up to the main event.

In the Pink Texas blogs the effect the Obama/Clinton race has on marriages, "Pink Lady, I’m with you. I’m for Hillary. I’ll say it. Let’s get this out of the way: my husband is for Obama. There are some intellectual reasons for his support, but mostly he has a fraternity-style man crush on the guy. And he doesn’t even see it, which is really maddening. And to counter us 'canceling each other out,' he’s making phone calls for the Obama Campaign. Don’t get me started on why he might have time to do this and why I might not for the Hillary campaign (married, working mother of two that I am). My support for Hillary has to do with loyalty and experience."

At TexasMonthy.com, Evan Smith recalls Molly Ivins anti-Clinton sentiment, "I just came across this column, written almost a year, to the day, before she died, offering the opposite of an endorsement."

The Ivins' article goes on to say, "I'd like to make it clear to the people who run the Democratic Party that I will not support Hillary Clinton for president. Enough. Enough triangulation, calculation and equivocation. Enough clever straddling, enough not offending anyone This is not a Dick Morris election. Sen. Clinton is apparently incapable of taking a clear stand on the war in Iraq, and that alone is enough to disqualify her. Her failure to speak out on Terri Schiavo, not to mention that gross pandering on flag-burning, are just contemptible little dodges."

Liza at Culture Kitchen has results of a pre-debate Texas poll and the MOMocrats founding editors are at a blogging event with Julie Pippert slated to blog tonight's showdown over at Momocrats

Texas debate

We're in Austin, hanging out in the media center. KTBC-Austin just interviewed my son, asking him what he thought of the candidates.

He said "I like Obama because I'm biracial like him, and I've never felt like I fit in anywhere and now I feel like being biracial isn't a bad thing."

I think I might cry. *sniff*

That is so cool

Very very neat! Have a great time - looking forward to reading about it here.

I agree! That is way cool.

I agree! That is way cool. Your son's comment is beautiful.

Anyone live in Austin?

If you live in Austin and see that segment, let me know, I'd love to get a copy of it.

Supporters

We came down San Jacinto Blvd to park and I would estimate there are 10 Obama supporters for every 1 Clinton supporter. There is a new feeling in the air here compared to a few weeks ago, in my opinion. The electricity is all Obama.

And someone gave my son an Obama Bobble Head doll. He's not giving it up, as much as I begged for it.

One thing I noticed in the spin room that I'd love to hear from you-

When the reporters/media laugh out loud or applaud...have a reaction-if you have the time, I'd love to hear about what gets the strongest response

Press Reactions

The Xerox comment got a lot of noise, both chuckles AND groans.

I would say that scored the biggest responses in here. The Univision reporters had the biggest responses to the immigration issues and they are still talking about it.

My Son's View of the debate

My son wrote about his thoughts about the debate, to turn in for school tomorrow, and I thought some of you might be interested in what he had to say:

AND AFTER THOSE PEOPLE IN LOUISANA VOTED FOR HIM . HE PULLED A NO SHOW. WHAT DO YOU THINK HE WILL DO AS PRESIDENT. HILLARY'S COLORS DON'T RUN .
