Depression Era Skin Care 101

I have a confession to make; I love skin care. If you know me, then this revelation is as shocking as revealing that I am a woman or that the sky is blue (technically the sky is every color but blue and either gets it's color from the ocean or vice versa. I was a film major). Over the years, I have developed a few beloved beauty products that are cheap, fun to make, and really work.
My first mask works best on combination or dry skin, but also does wonders for oily skin (just because your skin is oily doesn't mean it's not dry. Skin oil does not provide moisture, it coats your skin and seeps into your pores. True moisture comes through drinking lots of water).
Exercise caution if you have sensitive skin. Use this mask at your own beauty risk! I use it all the time, but I have strong, Persian skin :). Please do not sue me if you are red for a week, but I promise to help you find a skin soothing aloe and give make up tips for covering up redness :).

Use my ingredients list as a guide. You may need more or less of a product, or feel free to omit or change it all together!
1. Take a few strawberries (about four should do it) cut off the green part and mush the berries into as fine a paste as you can handle making at that time (I get bored after about a minute or less of this).
2. Mix in some honey, about three table spoons should do it. Honey is a natural antiseptic. If you have a pimple, put some honey on it and it should be gone by morning (or greatly reduced, depending on the size of the blemish).
3. Next take an egg (free range preferably). Depending on your skin type, do the following:
a. Dry Skin- use the yellow part only
b. Oily Skin- use the white part only
c. Combination or super awesome skin: use the whole egg
I generally use the whole egg because I like how it balances out my skin.
4. Add a touch of oil, such as almond, safflower, or sunflower oil. If you are really in a pinch, you can use olive oil. Add oil depending on skin type. One tea spoon for oily, up to two table spoon for dry.
5. Add a touch, and I mean a touch, of granulated sugar. If your skin is sensitive, do not add the sugar, as this is meant to be a mild exfoliation. But hey, life is short so I say, go nuts!
6. Mix the solution until everything is as mixed as humanly possible. The mixture is going to be incredibly runny. If you want a more traditional mask, I recommend buying some sort of clay such as green or Indian clay, which you can buy from most health food stores. Add the clay to the mixture until the mask reaches your desired consistences (mix the mask, lift up the spoon, and see how runny it is basically).
7. If you make the mask my way, it's going to be messy. I recommend using the mask over the sink, in the bath or shower. I like doing this mask in the bath because the steam helps open the pores. Application of the mask varies by skin type.
KEEP IN MIND I HAVE ONLY USED THIS MASK ON A FEW PEOPLE. IF YOU HAVE VERY SENSITIVE SKIN THEN USE THE MASK WITH CAUTION.
Also, keep in mind that you are putting strawberries on your face, so you will be a little more red than expected. After using the mask, wash your face again and wait a few minutes and depending on skin sensitivity, the red should be gone within the hour (I'm back to normal after I wash my face, but some people just turn read when you touch them).
Sensitive- treat this mask almost like a face wash. Spread on your face and massage in for about 30 seconds. Let the concoction set on your face (avoid eye drippage) for 30 more seconds to a minute, depending on how your skin is reacting to the mask. Rinse. Your skin may be a little red. Feel free to repeat the process for a little longer if you think your skin can handle it.
Non-Sensitive (combination, oily, and dry)- After cleansing the skin, massage the mask on your face for 30 seconds to a minute. Leave on face for five. Every minute of so, add more of the mask, as it will be dripping off your face. After 5 minutes, rinse. feel free to repeat.
If used as a regular mask, leave on skin for 10 to 15 minutes.
Every time I use this mask, my skin glows. It does get messy, so I like to pretend I'm a mad scientist whipping up my secret beauty serum. If you like making this mask, then I encourage you to look up other ingredients or recipes you can use. Think of your kitchen as your laboratory. The sky's the limit!
