Design Partner in Davis
Let me introduce myself. My name is Diana Mahoney and I've created a niche design business in my community of Davis, California. I've taken the roots of my college degree, years of experience in the field and shaped it together, taking into consideration my role as wife and mother first. It really is amazing how it all has come to be, and blogging is a way to document my work and share the scope of my interests which I'm hoping we will share.
The retail buying world was as exciting as it was described to be in my textiles classes at San Francisco State University. I was on the fastrack at Nordstrom then Macy's - moving onto Mervyn's then finally Gymboree Corporate. Ultimately, with close to ten years in the industry, the travel schedule became too much especially after getting married to a firefighter whose schedule was inherently unpredictable. I don't think we saw too much of each other that first year of marriage. It was then that I took a leap of faith, went back to school and changed careers to teaching.
Going back to school at 30 years old was a totally different experience than post-high school. And, as it has turned out, my coursework in child development, curriculum and instruction has proven to be extremely valuable as a parent. I did enjoy a few years of teaching middle schoolers before having my own children. Now, with my son's ninth birthday around the corner and daughter's seventh birthday after that, I've enjoyed being home with them more than words can express.
However, after a year or so doing the SAHM-thing I was itching for a project. Lucky for me, a friend of mine asked me to help her with a home decorating project. It was right up my alley, and the rest is history. I've been working via word of mouth for the past eight years on home projects - from paint consultations to major remodels. Over the years I've developed contacts and resource lists to help make "the vision" come alive! Recently my business has been building with more targeted marketing, including a design blog for Davis Life Magazine. It made sense to add BlogHer to my The Design Partner network.
As I work on client projects, come across new design ideas or find fun design-related topics to share, I will post them here. I hope you'll check back soon!
