Development Director

The Silicon Valley Independent Living Center (SVILC), a not-for-
profit center for advocacy, service and social change for people with
all types of disabilities, is searching for an experienced
fundraising professional to join us in our efforts to make Santa
Clara County a community dedicated to radical inclusivity. This is an
excellent opportunity to become a part of one of the first
Independent Living Centers (ILCs) in the United States. Since 1976,
SVILC has grown from a staff of five to become an award-winning
organization with a staff of over twenty and an annual budget of over
$1 million. In 2008, SVILC was named as a "Best Nonprofit to Work
For" by Opportunity Knocks.

The full time position reports to the Executive Director and is
responsible for planning and implementing a strategy to raise over $1
million in operating funds that includes significantly expanding
SVILC's donor base, major gift efforts, and relationships with
foundations and corporations. The Development department has a staff
of 1.5, handles all organizational public relations efforts, and the
department Director is a key member of the organization Management
Team.

Qualifications: a successful record of attracting and sustaining
public and private funding; excellent communication skills;
exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to
work both autonomously and collaboratively; proven experience
managing and directing fundraising efforts of staff and board
leaders; and an understanding of, and commitment to, disability
rights, independent living philosophy, and equal opportunity within a
rights-based, social justice framework. In addition, the position
requires that the candidate have: knowledge of computer technology
and the Internet to effectively support fundraising, including online
solicitation (experience with Exceed, Raiser's Edge, or similar
software desirable); and the ability to work occasional nights and
weekends, as needed, to support events and meetings. SVILC offers a
flexible work schedule and time off to accommodate these obligations
outside of the conventional work week.

Compensation: Depending upon candidate's experience and track record,
this position offers a competitive compensation package that includes
a 35-hour work week and generous benefits.
