When we go on a diet the first thing we do is get rid of all the high calorie and high fat products in the house. And that's good...Getting rid of our temptation is probably the most important first step in successful dieting.

But, if you forget the second most important step, you will run the risk of failure.

So...What's the second step?

Make sure you always have a good supply of healthy food in your house. That sounds like a no-brainer, but it's something many of us have a tendency to forget.

Unlike our favorite junk foods, healthy foods are usually perishable, and may require a few more trips to the grocery store than we are use to. But, we really need to make a conscious effort to keep our pantry well stocked with healthy foods when we are on a diet.  Keeping a nice variety of low calorie and low fat snacks on hand will make it easier to stick to your diet.

A Visual Guide To 15 Healthy Snacks

Another tip...Try planning your meals ahead of time, so you can make the most of your trips to the grocery store.

Keep healthy foods and snacks at the office too! There's nothing worse than getting the 3pm munchies with no food around.

Almonds

Carrot sticks (if you have a fridge)

Yogurt

 String Cheese

When you diet you want to make sure you still eat healthy and having nutritious foods is a great start. Healthy, fresh foods can fill you up too and make it easier to stay on a diet.

What great advice!  It seems that the food that is most convenient is not the healthiest and best for the waist line!  Having healthy food around gives you something to move toward as opposed to trying to avoid the bad stuff.  My biggest challenge though is eating without thinking.  It isn't until after I've eaten something that I think, "I shouldn't have eaten that."  Is it just me?  I've discovered 2 things that help that.  I have a very clear mental picture of what I will look like and feel like if I am successful losing the weight and I created a  tool that I wear all the time to remind myself of my intention to eat light and healthy.  You can take a look at them at www.newleaftouchstone.com ( http://www.newleaftouchstone.com/ ).  They really work.  Happy Healthy Days!!

Excellent advice--it's important to have safe foods in the house when you need to stick to a different eating regimen, be it a diet or a diagnosis that requires you eat differently.

At one time I adopted a very strict eating plan (due to a diagnosis) and found it was best for me to map out an eating plan.  I made a spreadsheet with the days of the week and breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, mid-afternoon snack, dinner, late-night snack.  By filling in the grid and having all the food planned, I felt satisfied and was less likely to fall off the wagon.
