Dining Rooms to Love

With the popular open floor plan design, the formal dining room has been omitted in floor plan layouts.  The dining room has now become less formal and used as a space for the whole family to gather whether it be family meals or homework on the table.

However, the separation of both breakfast room and formal dining room still remains a "want" for many people.  Though today the style in design for the formal dining room varies from formal to casual.

Casual dining at it's best.  Natural woven wall covering is casual but the deep rich brown color adds richness.  Contrasting wall covering on the back of the shelves against the white shelves provides interest.  The white painted chandelier has a casual vintage feel.  The dining room table details are interesting and remind you that no detail has gone unnoticed.  The chairs are slipcovered with a contrasting welt.

Formal but not pretentious.  The color combination is warm and inviting.  The contrast with the light and dark, neutral walls, fireplace, and dark furniture pieces.  The floor to ceiling limestone fireplace provide a beautiful focal point.  The large expansive Palladian windows are gorgeous and provide more light in the space.  The coffered ceiling is stunning, notice the faux finish and hand stenciled panels.

No, your dining room does NOT have to be red!!  The soft green hues are inviting and peaceful.  Notice the coffered ceiling-plaster details on the beams and inside the panels.  The rug has gorgeous green and gold tones.  The contrasting painted chairs against the stained table provides interest.  The chair fabric, zebra print, adds a pop!

This is modern casual.  All clean lines and masculine feel.  The rounded back chairs provide a feminine feel with the soft curves.  The light fixture is casual and modern.  Notice most everything in this space is all linear--rug pattern, wood floors, curtains, table, light, etc.

Veranda, February 2012 Issue

Country French at it's best!!  The beautiful gray/blue painted paneled walls with white accents are gorgeous.  Love the plates mounted on the wall.  Flooring is stunning-chevron pattern wood floors.  This is a great way to provide interest in a space.  Lantern is casual, but the finish adds a little formality to it.  The combination of painted chairs with the light stained table lightens the room.

Traditional Home, February+March 2012 Issue

Traditional & Formal.  The hand painted wallpaper in this space is gorgeous, outdoor scenery, by deGournay.   Cane back chairs with the gold and blue fabric coordinate beautifully with the wallpaper.  Everything in this space is traditional--from the furniture to the lighting to the drapery to the accessory.
