Disability Policy Consultant - Women's Sports Foundation

TITLE: Consultant - Disability Policy

REPORTS TO: Public Policy Director

SCOPE: Spearhead the execution of the Women's Sports Foundation public
policy and advocacy work for individuals with disabilities. Objective
includes securing federal legislation or regulations to increase
school-based opportunities for students with disabilities in sports and
physical education. Duties will include lobbying members of Congress,
meeting with regulatory agencies, building coalition and organization
support, and creating resources and materials to support the campaign
efforts.

CONSULTANT RESPONSIBILITIES:

75% GOVERNMENT RELATIONS

    * Execute of the Foundation's national policy agenda to advance physical activity opportunities for students with disabilities including:
          o Securing federal legislation or regulations to increase school-based opportunities for students with disabilities in sports and physical education.
          o Cultivating key members of Congress to champion the Foundation's policy agenda.
          o Identifying and engaging key constituent organizations to support the Foundation's advocacy platform.

25% PUBLIC EDUCATION

    * Provide assistance to Foundation Public Policy Director in development of targeted position papers, briefing papers, resource guides, research reports, and news articles that support and articulate the Foundation's advocacy agenda.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Required: Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study
with 4 to 6 minimum years experience in public policy, lobbying, government
relations or related field. Preferred Masters, Juris Doctorate or other
advanced degree.

    * Preferred 1-2 years minimum experience in disability policy or related field.
    * Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills required.
    * Excellent public speaking skills and interpersonal skills required.
    * Demonstrated ability to think strategically and develop complex plans and programs to advance broader agenda.
    * Self-motivated and ambitious, detail oriented.
    * Ability to work well alone and in a team environment.
