divorce, before, during and after
by bridgetbarry

What does a wife and mother do when she finally "outs" her physically, financially, and emotionally abusive husband?

This husband ,a doctor, in affluent Fairfield County Ct was arrested for domestic abuse, interfering with a 911call and resisting arrest. The community was initially very supportive. The police arrested him immediately after the abuse was confirmed by all three children in the house. In the weeks that followed I received numerous support calls from Social Services, the Police and assigned Victims Advocate within the criminal court.

I filed for divorce and was given a Full Protective Order through the courts. I Full Protective Order essentially prohibits the abuser from contacting or coming with 100 yards of the victim. This Protective order was violated twice and the good doctor was arrested once again. When a Protective order is violated the arrests are then felonies. I have gained an education under fire. My husband's criminal lawyer negotiated with my divorce lawyer to allow him to take anger management courses through the court in an effort to preserve his medical license. Our rational at the time was that, if he lost his license to practice this would put support of the family in danger. That made complete sense to me at the time. As the story unravels this was a mistake.
