Skin care you can also drink or eat sounds healthy, but does it work? According to Hiroko Tabuchi's article in the WSJ,  skin-products expert Lina Tanaka believes the medicinal properties of green tea make it great for your daily skin care regimen too. How does green tea help your skin?  According to the WSJ article, "Green tea contains chemical substances called polyphenols, which are antioxidants that mitigate the damage free radicals cause to the skin."

Here are a few of Tanaka's tips from the WSJ :

  • Morning tea toner: When you brew tea in the morning, set aside a small serving, let it cool so it is cool to the touch, then apply it to the skin as a toner. (Splash tea on or use cotton balls.) Follow up with facial cream to prevent drying. Don't let the toner sit out too long because green-tea polyphenols start losing their strength when they come in contact with air.
  • Evening eyelid refresher: Steep two bags in lukewarm water, place them directly on lids for about 10 minutes. Follow up with a facial cream to prevent drying.
  • Soothing facial: Soak cotton facial masks with green tea. Green tea can reduce inflammation and help lessen sunburn.  Follow up with a facial cream.

I am not a skin care expert or a doctor so I can't personally say how beneficial green tea is for your skin, but it feels delightful.   (If you want to read the rest of my Momathon Blog posts, go to  http://www.MomathonBlog.com.)
