Mindy at Our Fixer Upper gives a list of chores she wants to accomplish before the winter blows in.

I have my own very extensive list. Leaf blowing, exterior touch up painting, installing storm windows on our poor neglected third floor, reglazing some windows, raking, preparing flower beds for winter, clean out the wood stove... and considering how the temperatures have been dropping rapidly the past few days I am either going to have to heavily prioritize this list or just let most of it go.

Voidsmith, a bathroom remodel journal says, "Picking out a paint color is always hard." Yes it is when you end up with purple walls and did not want them.

Christine at Front Porch Indiana reveals her method for choosing the perfect color paint:

She continues: "And since this is the sewing room it really needs to be a neutral tone. Otherwise it could cast a strange color onto the fabrics and make matching difficult."

He says: "But wouldn't it cast the same color on all the fabrics?"

She gives him that look...

Choosing paint colors is not easy. Neither is it easy to convince your significant other that their idea of the perfect paint color is wrong, wrong, wrong. That is why I ended up with an apple green family room and a deep red cave of a dining room. I figured that there were enough big things, that could not be easily changed, that I had deeper opinions about.

After a few months of living with the apple green family room my husband sheepishly admitted that he really didn't like the wall color and that perhaps a more neutral color (like I had originally wanted, ahem) would be better. So I repainted it a lovely soft yellowy neutral. I have swatches for my dining room, but am not committed to any new color for the cave yet. But through all of this my husband has realized that perhaps picking paint colors is not his forte. And as Martha Stewart says, that it a good thing.

At Farmicology, they have a series of posts up showcasing their kitchen renovation in progress. The tearing out of the plaster walls, removing the lathing, putting up insulation in exterior walls where there was none... it all sounds like my house. And it looks like my house too.

We just painted our daughters' room -- we thought we had picked the perfect pink for an accent wall -- it turned out to look like Pepto Bismol!!! Always, always, always look at the paint chip, not your printout from the paint website!
