For someone with season football tickets and a fondness for 'genuine college football stars', all that excites me about this weekend's NFL playoffs and February 1's Super Bowl is the food. Wings, genuine Buffalo wings, now there's a touchdown worth cheering for.

Plenty of folks get plenty excited about their Buffalo wings. Yes, that's Buffalo with a capital B because the wings aren't clipped from bison, they're clipped from chickens. The first time that happened was in the city of Buffalo, New York, home to the -- umm, Bills, right? -- but just as importantly, the Anchor Bar (Moms with sleeping babies and Workers with sleeping co-workers might want to turn off their sound before clicking that link) which way back in 1964 started to deep-fry chicken wings, douse them in a spicy sauce and serve them with a side of blue-cheese dressing. And so history was made and a national search for obsession with the perfect chicken wing recipe took, um, flight. Let's look at some food blogger recipes for Buffalo wings, fried, of course, but alternative ways of cooking wings too.

FRIED WINGS
White On Rice Couple ~ Asian Crispy Chicken Wings
"These crispy chicken wings are addicting not only because of the sauce that it’s tossed in, but because they’re fried to a gold crisp. Every bite is slightly crunchy from the flour batter, the meat is juicy down to the bone and the sauce is finger biting good."

Two Peas and Their Pod ~ Boneless Buffalo Hot Wings
"Our dear friend Jason bought us a deep fryer for Christmas. Josh was on Cloud 9! ... All Josh has been talking about is frying EVERYTHING...including our breakfast cereal. ... But Josh did make Buffalo Hot Wings ... He was beyond excited. He researched recipes, bought all of the ingredients, and did all of the work.... He made sure everyone at the party sampled his wings. He said they were the best wings ever."

BAKED WINGS
My Kitchen Snippets ~ Roasted Honey Chicken Wings
"Here is something you can whip it up in your own kitchen in no time. They are roasted in the oven at a high heat to achieve even browning and a crispy skin."

Equal Opportunity Kitchen ~ Buffalo Wings, Baked Not Fried
"Here's last night's show stopper that I promise you will never disappoint you."

CROCKPOT WINGS
A Year in Crockpotting ~ Crockpot Hoisin Chicken Wings
"I love wings. I used to think that my love of wings was limited to those of the Buffalo variety, but in the past year or two my love has grown. I will gladly order a sampler appetizer platter of wings, or skip the pizza when out and stick just to the wings."

SMOKER WINGS
Fearless Kitchen ~ Bloody Mary Chicken Wings
"The smoky flavor from the apple wood really came through well through the relatively mild flavor of the sauce, and the combination of sauce and rub really did taste like a Bloody Mary (I drank a Bloody Mary to compare)."

SALAD WINGS
Jumbo Empanadas ~ Wonderful Wingless Hot Wings
"... it’s just like eating hot wings, but not as messy. It has all of the flavours you love from neighbourhood pub chicken wings, complete with blue cheese and celery sticks and it’s really quick and easy to make too. I’m giving this recipe a gold star and will definitely be making it again."

And you?

I always wondered what Buffalo wings were, and when I found out, I though the mere description would give me an heart attack! I must confess to making them once, though.

Man, were they good!! But my vascular system could only deal with them about once every 10 years.
