5 Reasons Mom, Why the Bible is True & Secular Humanism is Out!
By superparentmom on January 24, 2014
I heard a pastor recently who framed our world’s current view of religion and/or spirituality as something that has been reduced to “a day and age of Statistical Morality.” Interesting. Let’s think back a bit. Secular Humanism brought in a premise that says there is no God. Then came Post Modernism which says there is no definitive Truth. So, amidst this sea of relativism, it stands to reason that “Statistical Morality” could embrace the notion that what “most” people say must indeed be credible.
Really? How well did that work out for all those living in Noah’s time before the flood? (It’s never rained before!) Or for the citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah? (We can do as we please!) Romans 1:24 “For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.” And if your friend jumps off a cliff….you know the rest.
We need to know where truth comes from. Is there a source outside ourselves? Assumedly, that would be the Holy Bible, God’s words to us. But, is it true, trustworthy, credible? Put some tests up against it. Does it hold up under prophesy? Yes. Does it hold up under Archeology? Yes. Does it hold up under History? Yes. The skeptic inside your brain says, come on, anyone can Google and find documentation for anything you want to “believe.” Probably so. Which leads one to realize that “belief” really does come down to a faith decision. If you want to delve more into the topic, Josh McDowell has lots of interesting food for thought on the subject.
Jesus is the ultimate source of truth because He died, defeated Satan, resurrected and provided a way of salvation for every human. THIS gives Him the authority. No one else dead or alive can fill those shoes. Jesus confirms this in John 10:18, “No one has taken it (my life) away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.” Paul said it like this in Romans 1:2-4, “Which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh, who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Your kids can sing, “The B-I-B-L-E, yes that’s the book for me! I stand alone on the word of God. The B-I-B-L-E!” You might sing the well-known hymn, “On Christ the solid rock I stand and all other ground is sinking sand. All other ground is sinking sand.” When we open the Bible and read, we hear God’s voice and are privy to all that is really important. May we take it seriously and study it consistently so that we can in turn proclaim its TRUTH. David gives reason why in Psalm 119:42, “So I shall have an answer for him who reproaches me. For I trust in Thy word.”
Isaiah 40:8 states, “The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” Now there’s a statistic that does matter!
Do statistics play too big a role in our society today? What anchors your life on a day to day basis?
