Do you believe in signs?
By Fern Ronay on May 13, 2013
And miracles, for that matter.
The world is made up of two kinds of people - the believers and the non-believers.
I am in the former and that's how I ended up being the weirdo at Dunkin Donuts the other morning.
The Long Explanation -
My grandfather sends me pennies. Yes, he died 12 years ago. Yes, pennies.
Usually in the threes.
For example, a sad and single lawyer - ahem - finds herself on a train to the airport to make sure she is nowhere near NYC on Valentine's Day and decides to switch seats. "I'll take the aisle seat." And there, at her feet, are three pennies. "Aw, my grandfather is here ... And today is the anniversary of his death. February 10th. Weird."
But, sometimes, a lone one will do.
For example, a sad and frustrated lawyer - ahem - finds herself working for a tyrant and at 3AM, she is frantically looking for a stapler in the large conference room of the large building where she has the worst headache and just wants to quit. "How the hell is there no stapler anywhere?" Leaves conference room. Starts opening drawers near the printer, near the secretary's desk. "This is an office! Not one stapler? Nowhere?" More desks. More drawers. "Finally!" A stapler. And a penny. One shiny penny.
It all started with my mother after my grandfather died. She asked for a sign. She received. I believed. And two weirdos were born.
The Short Explanation when "Your coffee is ready." -
Young lady behind the counter: Your coffee is ready.
Me, after something caught my eye on the counter, looked to the left and I'm now holding up my camera phone: Sorry.
Me (to myself): Do not try to explain. Take your coffee and go, weirdo. Do NOT try to explain yourself.
Me, aloud: Sorry. My grandfather sends me pennies. I never do this but I have to take a picture.
Me (to myself): I'm an idiot. Well, at least I left out the dead part. Maybe she thinks I have some bizarre scavenger hunt going on in the city with my 100 year old grandpa.
Young lady, aloud and smiling: Oh.
Young lady (to herself): Weirdo.
In the spirit of Stop and Blog the Roses, here's to ~
2/ fellow believers
3/ the sad, single and frustrated lawyer is no longer sad, single or frustrated. Thank you, Grandpa! I always knew you had my back.
'LIKE' if you believe.
