I don't know about you, but I tell every about-to-be new mom something like "Congratulations! Find a good couples counselor now!"
Okay so I'm not quite that dire, but I definitely do believe in over-prepping people for the tension that almost invariably arises between two partners during co-parenting. Unless you are one hundred percent aligned with your partner regarding every single aspect of parenting, there are going to be times when your every hair is raised by something the other does even a tad bit differently than you might do, in raising YOUR child. My husband and I are nearly one hundred percent aligned and yet still I've thought about stealing the children and running off in the night after hearing him "not fully understand" one of my kids during a tantrum (not that I do either, but I like to pretend I do, deep down inside).
We did go to counseling, and it was good. But hell, maybe if this kind of light hearted show had been around back then, we could have saved ourselves a few thousand dollars of therapy bills!
