A Dog in People’s Clothing

In general I feel superior to people who dress up their pets. Once in PetSmart MPW was looking at this dorky t-shirt for our dog and I said to him, “Honey, we are just not that kind of puppy parents.” The woman standing by listening started to laugh and turn red. (I think she was that type of puppy parent).

My sister did get him a shirt that said “I still live with my parents” and we did put it on him a couple times, but that was the extent of it. I just felt that no respectable mommy of a male dog dresses them up. Sure, we’ve all seen the cute pictures online of dogs dressed up as Santa and Yoda and Hot Dogs and whatnot. In the boudaries of Halloween, or even Christmas I can understand it more. But the every day? Not really.

Last night we went to Bark and Fitz to see if we could get Angus a coat for the winter. (Coats don’t count! They don’t! He’s little and pugs cannot stand extreme temperatures! It’s just good sense!) The problem with pugs is that they are so wide around and so short. Clothing for dogs assumes that when your chest is that big, you must be really long as well, which is not the case. So, if it fits around he usually ends up peeing on it because it is too long. And that is just gross.

We did end finding a wonderful coat at Bark and Fitz. It fits him perfectly and will keep him pretty snug in the winter. Mission accomplished. Unfortunately, the sales associate did not stop there. She asked so innocently, would you like to see him in a sweater too? For cooler days? Laughingly we said okay thinking Angus would freak out with the sweater on and that would be the end of it.

Not the case. Not only did Angus absolutely love the sweater, he started trying to climb into bed with Lulu (a small pink chihuahua) at the store. He danced, he pranced…we bought the sweater. I know! *wail* We are so becoming those kind of puppy parents. In all fairness, MPW was terribly reluctant and he made me walk Angus out of the store (Angus wore the sweater home).

But he is just so handsome!
