Hi everyone!
I'm deviating from my normal Monday posting schedule because I have something to say about BlogHer. I'm here, and I can't wait to go see everyone, but I know the blogosphere is abuzz with who's here and who's not, and I want to pause briefly in my excitement to say IT DOESN'T MATTER.
Every year around this time people start posting about how they're going and what they're wearing, and then after the conference the photos go up on Flickr and people who weren't there feel like maybe they missed out on something very important, maybe they're not cool, and I know I personally have felt a twitter of something I haven't felt since high school.
This is not the point of BlogHer. Don't let it become anything like that to you.
I hope to see anyone who is here and Chicago, but if you're not, don't sweat it. BlogHer is not exclusive, it's alive and on the Internet, and virtual and real at the same time in its friendships and support. Whether or not you can afford the time or expense of travel should not be a big deal. We can work together to achieve our goals and strengthen our friendships without physically seeing each other (even though that is awfully nice).
So please, if you're feeling bad for not being in Chicago right now, don't. You are a valued and important member of this world, whether you show up in cute shoes or not. This is an amazing grouping of women (and some men), a grouping of amazing writers and thinkers and doers and people, and the beauty of the organization is that we can make a difference from anywhere. Please don't forget that you are always important to the group, no matter where or who you are.
