Conference Call for Ideas: Don't Hide Your Light Under a Bushel!

We have two Calls for Ideas open right now–one for BlogHer Food 2012, which will remain open until  December 21, 2011, and one for BlogHer 2012, which will remain open until  January 5, 2012 (both closing at 5pm PST). We've been working to publicize these Calls, and encourage you all to tell anyone you think might be interested.

We've also been explaining what you might need to in order to submit yourself and/or your ideas to BlogHer.  In recent weeks, Jes has published posts exploring How to Become a Speaker at BlogHer Events and explaining the fact that BlogHer Invites 80% New Speakers to Events.  These posts address what makes for a strong session proposal (specifics! practical takeaways! clear distinction from previous BlogHer engagements with the topic!), and clarify that you do not have to be a habitué of the conference speaking circuit to participate. In fact far from it.

After all this, some of you may already be good and decided about sharing your bright ideas with attendees at BlogHer conferences next year, and for that we say "Yay!" and "Thank you!" and "Keep it coming!" But a lot of you have big ideas (or stories, or expertise, or experiences) and yet haven't made the connection that not only could you share them with attendees at BlogHer, you should!  So it is for you that we offer:

A half-dozen true facts which we hope will lure you to submit your ideas (or or even yourself) for BlogHer Food or BlogHer 2012 (or both):

1. Blogs are conversations about things that matter to us, right? Blogging conferences take those conversations into real time and magnify their impact.  You need to be a part of that.

2. There is absolutely no way for new ideas, perspectives, techniques, or approaches to have an impact unless the folks who haven't expressed them before step up and do so.

3. You deserve to see yourself as the community leader you actually are.  (Or can be!)

4. Others deserve to hear you! You owe it to others who are interested in the same things, who can learn from your expertise or experience, who want to share their own with kindred spirits like you, and who want to look at an old challenge from a fresh perspective.

5. No matter how diligent the organizers, any large event organized by a bunch of people for tons of others is sure to overlook valuable programming nooks and crannies.  We do this call for ideas so that you shape the conference you want to go to! Help us see what we can't, so you can see what you want to in Seattle in June, and New York in August!

6. It costs you nothing to throw your idea and/or hat into the ring. And thinking your idea out to the point of a session proposal–in addition to having been fun–could aslo bear fruit in other ways (blog post, or better yet a series? a publication elsewhere? a collaborative project? a new business venture?).

Carpe diem! Better yet, carpe intake form!
