Can I just say how excited I am to go on a road trip sans children? I know it sounds rather harsh, and maybe it is but to be honest? I relish the idea of no squealing, whining and crying. I thought of listening to my own music, having adult conversation, not having to answer question after question, and cleanliness!
Oh, the cleanliness.

Embarking on the BlogHer Chevy Road Trip on this week has me giddy with anticipation. Not only for BlogHer, but I love the idea of road trip without kiddos. Don't get me wrong, LOVE having my kids around and love the little conversations we have, but sometimes? Sometimes those conversations can get to be a little trying. Sometimes Mommy just needs a break from the children's songs; the requests for food; a new video; a dropped toy or a pee break.

While in my early twenties, before children, a friend and I used to just get a couple things together and go driving for the day. We rarely had a destination, but somehow always managed to get somewhere: the beach, a hiking trail, an old abandoned house where we'd take pictures.
We'd drive with the windows down, our favourite songs on cassette - OMG, Yes. Cassettes. - and we'd sing at the top of our lungs.

I want to experience that again.

This week may just be that opportunity.

For five days I can leave my 'mom car' at home. The car riddled with wrappers, abandoned sippy cups, dropped toys, discarded DVD cases, forgotten hats and pudgy finger marker windows.

Thanks to BlogHer and Chevy I will be attempting to relive my early twenties in a brand new 2010 Chevy Equinox with my iTouch in hand. I will belt out incorrect lyrics to songs of my past. We will stop only when we need to and we can listen to the crass humour of Dane Cook and not worry about hearing, "Mommy, what does 'investigate my crime scene' mean?" come from the back seat.
