BlogHer '09 In Real LifeBefore the holidays we revealed the 30 programmed sessions that will make up the Identity and Passions, Business of You, Leadership and MommyBlogging tracks at BlogHer '09 in Chicago this July. You can check out that schedule here.

30 sessions sounds like a lot, but in fact we synthesized over 300 submissions down into those 30 sessions...and that means there are many, many more ideas are out there in the community, looking for a home.

Enter the BlogHer Room of Your Own tracks. You can read the original post from 2005 where we introduced the concept here, but the short story is this:

"Since BlogHer programmed panels typically feature universal topics discussed by diverse voices, the Room of Your Own sessions are the perfect place to dig deeper into any one corner of the blogosphere...its particular challenges, triumphs, concerns, issues. You can lead a discussion alone, or bring a panel of interesting speakers. There will be two full tracks (or 12 individual sessions) reserved for Room of Your Own sessions."

The Room of Your Own tracks are designed to provide BlogHer conference attendees with one more way to customize their own conference experience and contribute in a meaningful way. You must be a registered attendee of BlogHer '09 to present a Room of Your Own session at the conference.

This year we're launching a new way to submit, track and improve on Room of Your Own suggestions. Using one of the polling capabilities of our fabulous Drupal interface you will now be able to submit your idea, peruse other people's ideas, indicate which panels you'd attend, and even indicate which of the panels that others have proposed you would love to join forces with and speak on too!

Here's how it works:

Step #1: Make sure you are a registered member of BlogHer.com and are logged in

Step #2: Click on the "Create a Post" in the upper right

Step #3: Scroll to the bottom of the types of content you can add and click on adding a "Session"

This will take you to the submission form.

Step #4: Fill in your session title

Step #5: Choose whether you are submitting a Room of Your Own session idea or a Geek Lab session idea. (See here for a description of the Geek Lab submission process.)

Step #6: Describe your session idea...enter as much detail as you can. If this is an idea you want to present, include a bio and some relevant links to your blog. If this is an idea you want to see someone else present, provide as much detail as you can about what would be the session of your dreams.

Step #7: Hit "Submit"

You're done. You will now see a post with your session idea.

You'll notice two toggling links at the top of your post. They say:

1. I would attend this session
2. I would be interested in presenting on this topic

Click on those links, if true, you can always go back and change your mind.

You'll be able to go to this Room of Your Own proposals page to see all the submissions, how many people are interested in each one, and how many potential speakers there are.

So, there it is:

Submit a session.

See what people have submitted.

Have at it! Can't wait to see what you all come up with!

I came here from your link on the process for submitting an idea for ROYO at BlogHer10/05. Is the process the same as for 2009 or is there another link?

Thanks!

HI MJ.

Here's the list of chosen Room of Your Own sessions ( http://www.blogher.com/conference-community-built-... ), and they're all added to the official online agenda now.

You have not missed the Birds of a Feather. A post on that is still coming, and some will even be organized that day.

OK, thanks Elisa!

But where do I find the info so I can join in on that room?  I'm hoping to see a Chicago room.

And I hope I didn't miss the Birds of the Feather yet.

The submission period closed a while ago, so you can no longer suggest a session, MJ, sorry!

One last chance to self-program wll be Birds of a Feather meet-ups at lunch. Look for a post from Lori asking people to suggest Birds of a Feather groups.

Since Room of Your Owns are reserved for people who are definitely attending the conference, we can allocate these sessions fairly late in the game. Wouldn't want to shut it down early since new topics become hot topics pretty fast in the blogosphere.

We'll give a heads up a couple of weeks before we decide to close it down, but I'd say this will be running for at least a few months.

What's the deadline for a room idea submission?

avitable 5 pts

They're there now.  I was tearing my hair out trying to find them!

Thanks.

Elisa Camahort 5 pts

BUt bear in mind they do only show up if you're logged in. Only logged in members can flag sessions.

Of course, Avitable, you had to be logged in to comment, so there definitely was a problem, but it's fixed now.

Sorry, I'm a Safari user, so I didn't even notice what you were talking about. But I see the problem now.

Working on it...

Sorry!

Two lines of text at the top of Suebob's submission ( http://www.blogher.com/when-your-family-your-blogs... ) as follows:

I would be interested in presenting on this topic
I would attend this session

If you roll your mouse over them you'll see they're actually links. Once you click on either, the language will change to say:

I would not be interested in presenting on this topic
I would not attend this session

Which indicates you would need to click again if you wanted to change your answer to say you would not be interested.

Do you see those sentences?

I'm using Firefox and I don't see any toggling links at the top of submissions.  I'm not sure if I'm looking in the wrong place or what.
