I'm a bit worried about the economy, actually i'm alot worried.
I fear it's going get alot worse for alot of people, especially for people who haven't saved money. I don't know why the gov't thinks they can fix things by pretending that they are not there.
My best friend thinks that way. She thinks I'm crazy because I live in a little itty apartment building with the crazy people in downtown LA, but I pay 500 bucks and i have no credit cards and no debt. i was never a big believer in spending large amounts of cash on rent. I don't see the point of it, I'm not so into the aethetics of my living arrangements.
If i can shower and piss, that's all I need.
My best friend is paying over 1500 dollars a month in rent and i make more money than she does and i think something is wrong in a society where people think it's completely ok to pay that kind of rent because is something is pretty. I think sometimes women need to stop worrying about that kind of prettiness.
But housing is just part of the problem, jobs are another, healthcare, savings, food...these are all problem in the US. Oh and in Los Angeles our paper is being destoyed by Sam Zell, who is the anti-christ.
Though in LA it's odd that the people in the media all look the same. The people discussing it and lamenting its demise, are all old white men. It's 2008 and still the voice of the "real" media is still white men, even on liberal media stations like KCRW.
I am sad that the LA Times is getting chopped up in little pieces, because there needs to be an objective media out there, but I'm not so sure that the LA Times was that objective.
Now these same guys are starting blogs and its the same little circle jerk party with penises, I mean really the more things change they more they remain the same.

P.S. Why doesn't Blogher have "economy" under topics, women don't blog about the economy, I've never knitted anything, but I have done my taxes.

We can't have every topic, we just don't have the space for such a thing. So, this is a "Finance" topic or a "News & Politics" topic or a "Media & Journalism" topic or a "Feminism & Gender" topic - from there, you drill down to specifics with free tags, as you've done very well.
We also don't have a "knitting" topic... :-)
Also, love your post and agree with you quite a bit regarding how we spend our money. The amenities we MUST have in our homes and cars and lives are getting a wee bit out of hand. While I need a place that's a little above "a place to shower and piss", I refuse to pay 3K a month for a house. Nope, I'll live in my little yellow house with the uneven floors, thanks.

go ahead and put it out there
:-)
I don't knit either but I find those who do fascinating. They speak a whole different language and they knit me socks (and maybe someday a scarf since I now live where it's freezing a** cold) and they're awfully nice to me when I ask them really dumb questions about knitting.
