Emerge! Fashion Show Honors Vogue’s Andre Leon Talley as Part of New York's Fashion Week

BlogHer Original Post

There's nothing like Fashion Week in New York and getting the chance to see designs from veteran couturiers or up and coming fashion mavens.

This week, my girlfriend Judy and I got all dolled up and strutted our own stuff to the Broad Street Ballroom downtown and the Emerge! Fashion Show

Evoli Jahi piece EMERGE 2012!

But first things, first, this oh, so classy coat by Evoli Jahi was my favorite design of the show. The tailoring was impeccable and I just loved the shape of it.

However I'm jumping the gun a bit.  The evening was hosted by actress Tracee Ellis Ross (photo below, right) and promised fashions from cutting edge designers, and an award presentation by the legendary Diane Von Furstenberg to Vogue’s iconic Contributing Editor Andre’ Leon Talley (photo below, left and center).

There was a who's who of reality TV stars in attendance:  Alex McCord and her husband Simon Van Kempen from The Real Housewives of New York City (2nd photo below); runway diva extraordinaire, Miss J. Alexander from America's Next Top Model (photo below, left); Toccara Jones, also from America's Next Top (photo below, right); and Dwight Eubanks of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

When we arrived, the venue was somewhat smaller than I expected, but it actually made the  event intimate.  Before the program started, I asked Miss J. what fashion trends she liked for fall.

"I think green may be a color that may pop up a lot.  Textured fabrics, ankle boots with feathers or fur."

When I asked what she herself was wearing, she said "old stoles that I cut up."

The show started with the awards presentation, and Diane Von Furstenberg spoke warmly of her friend Andre and about his contributions to the world of fashion.  He was as commanding a presence in person as he appears on TV and had just flown back from LA after attending the Grammy Awards.

Then the lights went down and the music went up.  Six designers were showcased:

Here's a slideshow of some of the fashions:

If I had to choose a favorite collection, it would have to be between Elie Kuame and Evoli Jahi.  The styles in both collections were sharp and fresh and if someone wants to buy me that coat, have at it!

The Emerge! Fashion Show was produced by D. Williams PR Group.
