The End is Near!

With all the talk about the of the world coming to an end this weekend, have to admit I'm a little unnerved. However, this is not due to the predicted Armageddon. My panic is squarely footed in a seemingly mundane, but very real event.

In exactly one week's time (if we all make it till then), I will be witnessing the end of the world as I know it.

How can I be so sure?

Simple. This is when my family embarks on one of the most tumultuous times in history: Summer vacation.

Every year I approach the last day of school with the same fear and trepidation. No matter how much I plan, how many activities I schedule, I'm still caught off guard. And I still have four children underfoot for the longest two and a half months of the year.

Don't get me wrong. I love summer. I love the weather, the relaxed pace and the trips. But unfortunately, I am also a lover of personal space and quiet time -- two things that I will be forgoing come next Friday.

I will also be dealing with an exponential increase in my cooking, cleaning and referee duties. This will be even more challenging since I'm still not walking very well yet. There's also the fact that we don't have a lot of cash to burn on all those fun activities -- you know, the ones that tend to keep you sane when you have a ton of free time on your hands.

Instead, I'll be left with whines of boredom and torture. Some of those may actually be coming from the kids. So next week, as you see the annual flight of the children happily exiting their schools, look closely. In the background you might spy a lady with the pale white complexion and clumps of hair in her hands. That'll be your's truly, in the flesh.

Wish me luck
