Beauty before talent. That is such an ugly phrase. I think everyone knows that it works that way in Middle School; it should not work that way at Wimbledon.Yet it does.Beauty of a player is among the things taken into consideration when deciding on the court selection at Wimbledon and it has been confirmed by All England Club spokesperson Johnny Perkins.
I am a huge football fan. When it comes to Saturdays and Sundays (and Monday nights and Thursday nights) if it is during football season you can pretty much assume I am either watching a football game on tv, I am attending a football game, I am listening to a game on the radio or I am tailgating.Sometimes I do two or three of these things at the same time. The rest of the week I just mess with my fantasy football lineups.Yes, I know I have issues. I am fine with that.
I spent last Saturday in a basement. No, really. It was fabulous. I was on a panel for the first Blogs With Balls conference. I met a lot of wonderful people and amazing sportswriters, but I did spend the day in a room with no windows. This is probably why I was completely unaware that I was missing World Naked Bike Ride Day.No I am not making that up.

Ah, the first day of June. The flowers are blooming, summer's in the air, and the New York Times runs an article about a girl who plays high school tennis with boys, which upsets rival schools. The small magnet school attended by Hannah Berner has no girls' tennis team, so the school let her join the champion boys' team. None of the students at her school minded - she's a power house tennis player. Their opponents, however, have a lot to say about playing against - gulp - a girl.

In February, Sports Illustrated writer Selena Roberts reported that Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, aka A-Rod, is one of 104 players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball’s 2003 survey testing. Although Rodriguez previously denied using performance enhancing drugs, after Roberts' story broke, he admitted using steroids from 2001 to 2003. The public was outraged by A-Rod's behavior. At first.

When I worked at WebMd, we saw a lot of people come to the message boards talking about injuries they had received while using exercise bikes and treadmills. They often laughed off their injuries, talked about being a Klutz and for awhile we had a running thread about the injuries from the Gazelle.
Injuries from exercise equipment are common.
This time of year two things become apparent every single year 1) The NHL and NBA playoffs last forever and 2) Major League Baseball has a serious image problem.Since my Washington Capitals were knocked out of the playoffs in a tragic fashion, I am scared to write anything about the Magic because I don't want to jinx them an I am sick to death of baseball and steroids I figured we could talk about a few things going on in women's sports.
This week is killing me. Is Brett Favre staying retired or isn't he? Was Manny Ramirez juicing to enhance his performance on the baseball diamond or his performance in the bedroom? The Washington Capitals were winning their series against the Penguins 2-0 and now it is all tied up.Gah!At least The Magic are 2-1 in their series against the Celtics. My head is spinning. I think there is actually too much going on in sports this week.
It's been a whirlwind 48 hours attending the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby horse races in Louisville – both unforgettable American spectacles celebrating their 135th year. There's nothing quite like carousing with 153,000 festive people dressed in either their most elaborate finery ... or the craziest thing they could find. Sure, it’s all about the hats, parties and the Mint Juleps but most of all, it’s about the horses. And, let's face it, who doesn't love a long shot win?
Social media has exploded into the mainstream. I remember the days when only college kids could get Facebook accounts, only bloggers were using Twitter and MySpace was mostly for hooking up. Now even my mom knows what Facebook is. I am Facebook friends with my husband's Aunts and Uncles. They show Twitter quotes on CNN!
A couple weeks ago WNBA star Chantelle Anderson wrote a thought provoking piece for Yardbarker called The Choice Between Sports and Sex Appeal. It really stuck me. Listen to what she wrote:
