Calling Loudly, “J.D. Salinger”

In 1941, J.D. Salinger had seven stories rejected by The New Yorker. Apparently undaunted, he submitted an eighth the same year, "Slight Rebellion off Madison," which was accepted. BUT, it was about a disaffected teenager (can you guess his name?) nervous about the war, and in the wake of Pearl Harbor was deemed unpublishable - so did not see print for another five years....more

Brighten up your kitchen for Valentines Day

The 20 Minute Dish Towell. I wanted a quick easy, dish towel for February- a “keep it simple” project.  This decorative dish towel took me 20 minutes to make.  A few months ago I ran across this fabric at a quilt shop and bought enough for one towel, thinking to make a towel for Christmas. Since that didn't happen, I decided to make a dishtowel for Valentine’s day instead....more

Remember Pets with Handmade Holiday Gifts

It was cold last night, yet I was warm while I slept because my dog Jake curled up right next to me.  Today, the dogs will greet my every return to the house (even if I just went out to the mail), eagerly taste test my food to insure it's safety, and coat the carpet in a decorative layer of additional fur.  Other peoples' cats will prowl their houses looking for stray dust motes and mice to chase.  Hamsters will spin on their wheels and squeak an alarm when the refrigerator door opens.  Parrots will mimic.  Fish will calm with their steady back and forth motion. ...more
