Women's jean fashions are changing constantly. Although we have many options these days when it comes to which jean styles are available to us, such as flare leg, bootcut jeans, low rise jeans, high rise jeans and skinny jeans, so that theoretically we can choose whatever we want, the reality is that there are hot trends in women's jeans that are difficult to ignore, and these trends are constantly changing.
The main problem is that as long as a trend is super-hot, it's very difficult to find other jean styles in stores. Case in point: when low rise jeans were all the rage, it became very difficult to find high rise, or even mid rise jeans. As a result, tops got progressively longer (as jean rise got progressively lower!) - I actually assumed this was the way things were going to be from now on and got rid of a few favorite tops that were too short to accommodate low rise jeans.
BUT the trend of low rise jeans has cooled off, and now I miss those tops that would have been so perfect with my newly acquired mid rise jeans. :(
Another great example: skinny jeans. It took a while for women to get used to the look, especially since it's a challenging look to pull off if you're not a model. But eventually many of us have gotten used to the idea and even found ways to wear skinny jeans (I like to wear them tucked into knee high boots).
But it seems as if as soon as we got used to skinny jeans, that trend has been cooling off too, and now it's all about boyfriend jeans!
I guess the only way to avoid trends is to stick with classics such as boot cut jeans, although I still maintain that for a while there, it was simply impossible to find a fashionable pair of jeans (non mom-jeans) that didn't have a low rise. So sometimes, despite your best intentions, you find yourself following womens jeans trends.
