I work from home as a copywriter. The benefits are too many to list here (I love my job), but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the daily interactions of office life. I'd also be lying if I didn't see the necessity to build my professional network and find new clients.
The obvious solution to getting my fix for social interaction and for finding new clients lies in networking both online and offline. Because of this, I've made it my goal to do in-person turbo networking for the next six months.
That's right. I plan to attend an event, schedule a meeting, or sign-up for a conference at least once a week for the next six months.
I know that what I'm talking about is not revolutionary, but for me it is. I've done very little networking in my career and the idea of walking into a crowded room where I know no one is a bit terrifying. (Cocktail, please:)
I plan to blog about this experiment and even make a Squidoo lens about it too, so I invite you to check both of those out. I also invite you to tell me how you get out there and network. Please tell me: what's your networking strategy?
OK, wait. Before you tell me, let me just say one more thing. Twitter, BlogHer, and Facebook are excellent examples of networking - unless you're living under a rock, then you totally get this - so don't tell me about that ... unless you have a really unique approach to social media.
Do share!
